When the bible speaks of "The image of God", we use to misunderstand it thinking that God has a physical appearance like man. Bro Eli in this teaching made us to understand that the scripture reveals something deeper than we think. It is not about physical likeness, rather it's about the spiritual and moral qualities instilled in man by God.
In the book of Genesis 1:26-27: God said, "let us make man in our image, after our likeness". This doesn't mean that Man look like God in flesh, the book of John 4:23-24 made us to understand that God is a spirit. Spirits do not have flesh and bones. This means that the "Image" mean the spiritual qualities given to human by God. Man was created upright and righteous, reflecting God's holiness. But humanity lost that likeness when we sinned against God. When we choose righteousness over sin, we reflect God's image, but whenever we deviate from the path which God has commanded us to follow, we reflect the opposite.
As christians, we should always remember that we are the image of God created pure, upright and in holiness therefore, we should always deviate from sin and live a holy and righteous life. For us to truly live as the image of God, we must follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
