Staying healthy and following a healthy lifestyle is one topic we humans can't do without because it is the very essence of living, as living without good health isn't something anyone wishes for. And when we talk about staying healthy, it's not just about keeping our physical body healthy but also maintaining good mental health, as both parts can't do without each other.

Our mental and physical health are not separate entities; rather, they're closely linked. As our mental state can affect our physical health, and vice versa. For example, being mentally stressed somehow finds a way to affect our physical appearance; some of us lose weight when stressed, while others gain more weight. Either way, our hormones get affected and become unbalanced. On the other hand, how do you feel when you exercise your body regularly, eat a good or well-balanced meal? Your stress level gets reduced, and you can even sleep well.

I once saw a friend's WhatsApp status that showed that sometimes we are not depressed but need to eat good food. As funny as it sounds, thinking about it critically, it might be true, as the economy situation of the country has made most family sacrifice good meal in their home, instead, they now manage, not only does this affect our body overtime if we don't eat the right food, it begins to affect our mental state, causing depression in this case. This shows that we ought to create a balance at all times; we can neglect one for the other, as they both work hand in hand.

That being stated, what are the ways we can create a balance between our mental and physical state of health?

In my opinion, I think the very first step is to prioritize self-care. Bills will always be accumulating, there will always be something to do, so why overstress yourself with work and family responsibilities at the detriment of your health? Some of us no longer have a healthy amount of sleep daily in a bid to hit it big faster. So far, how has it been of help?

It is not a bad thing to chase our dreams, but do it cautiously, knowing you are human and not some machine, sleep well, eat well, spend quality time with friends and family, who make you feel happy, set realistic goals and keep doing your best to attain them, but not at the detriment of your health.

Our body is so amazing that it gives us signals when we overdo or do less. We must learn to decode these signs or symptoms, know when to rest, and when to visit the doctor for a checkup. Some of us even take simple things like hydrating, or drinking enough water, unserious, not knowing it can lead to a serious health condition.

Achieving a balance between our mental health and physical health requires effort, patience, and dedication. By prioritizing self-care, creating a routine, and incorporating strategies for both our mental and physical well-being, we can maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember, life is a journey, and setbacks are just a pause, not the end, learn to celebrate your small wins, be grateful for what you have today, and that way, you can lead a healthier lifestyle and be a happier you.
