Well, mine started out boring, as there has been a power outage for more than 48 hours, making all our devices down, it's moments like this that make us realize how much we've depended our lifestyle on the online world, forsaking, physical activities. Thankfully, sewing is a physical activity I enjoy doing, since I couldn't spend my supposedly less busy day scrolling away on TikTok reels or other online shenanigans, as I had to manage the little percentage of battery left on my device with the hope of power being restored soon.
I got busy working with leftover fabrics from a recent project, I had recently made my aunt a brocade bubu dress and had some pieces of the material, rather than add to my pile of leftover fabrics, I decided to design a simple and beautiful dress out of it, combining it with satin material, as the brocade fabric isn't enough to make a full dress.
So without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting and cutting the upper side of the dress, using a basic bodice pattern, and a sweetheart neckline for the front, while the back has a normal neckline.
- Continuing, I also cut out lining using the same fabric, then turned the neckline and sides neatly in.
- For the lower part of the dress, I cut out a straight skirt pattern, which stops right above her knee length, and also cut out the lining for it.
- Then I turned the lower part of the dress with its lining, before joining it around the waist to the upper part of the dress
- Finally, I cut out the puffy sleeve pattern with the last piece of fabric left, and sewed it around both armhole areas. I also sewed a zipper to the back of the dress. And that completes the making process of the beautiful dress.
