Happy weekend Hive!
Finally, I get to enjoy the rest of the weekend before it is over, as I've spent my day and past week on one sewing project or another. If I had the chance, maybe I would have taken today off, as my back aches badly from exhaustion. The good thing is that at the end of it all, it was worth it, and the last piece for the week belongs to my mum, so there was definitely no backing out. Thankfully, it is a simple long sleeve kimono dress.
I've had the fabric with me for a while, from one of my fabric impulse buying, because it looked too good for the price I was told, and when mum came visiting, she fell in love with the fabric pattern as well, so I had to gift her, of course, not until I turn it into a dress. It's a soft crepe fabric, and also soothing to the skin, which is perfect for my mum.
After much thought on what to make, I settled for the V-neck kimono dress. So with out further ado, let's get right into the making process.
** Materials Used**
Soft crepe fabric, both plain and patterned and matching coloured thread.
Cutting And Sewing process
- I started the making process by folding the 3 yards of fabric into four, before drafting the kimono/ cut together sleeve dress directly on the fabric.
- Next, I cut out both the front an back togrther, using just the back nckline first.
- Before proceeding to cut out the 3 inches width from the front neckline to the hem of the dress
- Continuing, I sewed and joined the front and back by the shoulder area
- Then I measured around the front from one hem to the other, the measurement obtained was used to cut the plain fabric length, which measures the cut out 3 inches in width.
-
here, I sewed it around the middle front
-
Also elongated the sleeve length with the plain crepe fabric
-
I also cut out pockets for the side of the dress and belts as well
Finally, I joined the sides and hemmed the dress neatly. Look how beautiful it turned out. I'm sure my mum would love her new comfy Kimono dress.
