This morning, I went for a walk under a parasol.
As I walked along a narrow sidewalk, a mother on a bicycle, with children seated in front and behind her, sped by and dropped a small backpack. It seemed to belong to one of the kids. Turning around with children on the bike looked like it would be quite a hassle, so I hurried over, picked up the backpack, and handed it to her.
“Thanks, sorry!”
The mother said, but her voice clearly carried a hint of irritation. Of course, it wasn’t directed at me, I don’t think… The morning rush, the weight of the kids, and this sweltering heat—everything seemed to be getting on her nerves.
Her mood rubbed off on me, and for a moment, I felt a bit down… But with temperatures exceeding 35°C day after day, I suppose it’s understandable. Even at my part-time job, I’ve noticed more customers seem unusually irritated lately 😅
Regaining my composure, I continued walking and spotted some datura plants thriving by the roadside. This plant is entirely toxic, and eating it can be fatal for humans or pets.
Surprisingly, because its fruit resembles okra and its roots look like burdock, there have been actual cases of people mistakenly eating it. Some have made tempura with the fruit and experienced hallucinations, or cooked the roots like kimpira gobo and suffered poisoning…
Its large white flowers are truly beautiful, but it’s extremely dangerous, so please be careful not to touch it if you come across it!

午前中、日傘を差してウォーキングに出かけました。
狭い歩道を歩いていると、前後に子どもを乗せたお母さんが自転車で勢いよく通り過ぎ、ポロッと小さなリュックを落としました。どうやら子どものものだったようです。
前後に子どもを乗せたままではUターンすら大変そうだったので、私は走り寄ってそのリュックを拾って渡しました。
「どうもすみません！」とそのお母さんは言いましたが、声には明らかにイライラを含んでいました。もちろん、私に対してではないと思いますが…。朝の忙しさ、子どもの重さ、そしてこのうだるような暑さ――すべてが彼女をイライラさせているようでした。
その気分が伝わって、私も一瞬嫌な気持ちになりましたが… 連日35℃を超えるこの暑さでは仕方ないかなという気もします。パート先の買い物客も、やたら苛立っている人が増えました😅
気を取り直して歩いていると、道端にケチョウセンアサガオが生き生きと茂っているのを見つけました。
この植物は全身に毒があり、人間やペットが食べると死に至ることもあるそうです。驚いたことに、果実はオクラに、根はゴボウに似ているため、実際に間違えて食べる事故が起きているとのこと！
果実をかき揚げにして幻覚を起こしたり、根をきんぴらゴボウにして中毒を起こしたり…
大輪の白い花はとても綺麗ですが、かなり危険なので、もし見つけても触らないようご注意ください！
