Hello dear friends. Tonight I will introduce you to the city that I often mention in my posts, and I said a little about the city itself. This is my hometown, Loznica. It is located in the west of Serbia and 3 kilometers from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The natural border of these two states is the river Drina. Loznica got its name from the vines, because a lot of vines were grown in that area, and that's how the name of the town came about. The river Štira flows through the city itself, which does not seem large, but when there are summer rains and winter snow melt, it can and has happened to overflow its bed. Štira flows into the Drina. 30 or so years ago, Loznica was an industrial city, one of the largest cities, because at that time there was a "Viscose" factory that employed about 11,000 workers. The factory had several factories, the most famous of which was silk, which was made in Viscose and exported all over the world. After the unfortunate war, when the old Yugoslavia fell apart and sanctions were imposed on Serbia, Viskoza stopped working. The history of Loznica itself is very interesting, because great people were born in Loznica and its surroundings, such as Vuk Karadžić, Jovan Cvijić - the famous geographer, Mića Popović, the famous painter, Anta Bogićević, the Serbian duke during the 1st Serbian uprising in 1804 and many others. The highest point in the city is the moat, where there is a monument to Duke Stepa Stepanović, the duke and chief commander in the Battle of Cerska. First, see how Loznica looks from that place.

My city was first mentioned in the 14th century in the charter of King Dragutin, who also built a monastery near Loznica. The monastery is located in Tronoša, and a few centuries later Vuk Karadžić went to his first school in that monastery.
Next to the monastery flows the river Žeravija, which also flows through the village of Tršić, where Vuk Karadžić was born.
Near the monastery there is also a spring, Česma 9 Jugovića, one of the healthiest waters, which today is distilled and sold under the name Tronoša Water.
The monastery has a church gate, an inn (where guests who come from afar can stay overnight) and a museum. The surroundings of the monastery are beautiful nature, forests, meadows, orchards. The monks cultivate the land there, and they also have a lot of animals that they raise. The monastery also has its own library.

Big battles were fought around Loznica during uprisings and wars, because it is close to the border with Bosnia. The famous Battle of Loznica in the time of the 1st Serbian uprising, under the leadership of Ante Bogićević. During the First World War, famous battles were the Battle of Cer, the Battle of Gučevo and the Battle of Mačkovo kamen. Gučevo is a mountain that is about 700 meters above sea level. A memorial ossuary dedicated to those killed in the First World War was built on the top. From Gučevo you can see the whole of Loznica, Mačva, the river Dina and Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are also several resorts, holiday homes, restaurants and mountain lodges, and there are Gučevski vajati, where the facilities are suitable for children and nature lessons.

At the foot of Gučevo is one of the most beautiful and famous spas in Serbia. It is a health resort founded by King Petar I Karađorđević. The spa is known for its healing mud and water and best cures bone diseases.
