East of Steps – lone portulaca flower
On Tuesday morning I didn’t get up until 6AM. I got my post up and then got busy. I had to clean up the kitchen, get materials laid out for various projects for later in the day, and get ready to go with my brother and his nephew to put mums on my mom’s grave at 9:30AM.

My brother had brought 2 mums he hadn’t been able to plant at home because for some reason, his sheep are roaming his yard. When he opened his car trunk to get the plants out, I saw the white pumpkins I had given him a couple weeks ago. He hadn’t put those out for the same reason.
He had brought 3 stones to put on the headstone for my sister. Someone had brought a pumpkin and the squirrels had found it. His nephew took these 2 photos.
My brother has a favorite farm stand on the river road home and he stopped there and they bought a lot of produce. They dropped me off and headed back to CT.

My helper friend arrived right behind us and he and I got started watering all the house plants. He had some chores upstairs to do and I finished setting up to decant sauerkraut and make another batch of butternut soup.

He was going to do those things while I went out to put down more mulch.

But I had done entirely too much standing all day and only managed to get 2 more rows of mulch down by 2:15PM.
I sat down for an hour or so while my helper friend worked on the soup and errands. I finished it and got it into jars to cool off before going in the fridge or freezer.
I was really exhausted and once the shades were pulled, the fire started, and supper eaten, I headed to bed around 8PM.
On Friday my helper friend will be here at 8AM and he’s making parsnip chowder and has a few chores to do. My #1 intern will be here for 10AM and we will be mulching and cleaning out the Big garden.
The tech for the solar panel system is to be here before 2PM. We’ll see where they send him this time…
It’s turning cloudy and colder on Friday too, so I may have the stove going.
