Small garden - brocolli after cutting crop July 2025.jpg

I was up at 5:30AM on Wednesday morning and got my post up, the cat fed, and the house closed up. My general helper came in at 6:15AM from her camper van in the driveway, and we went out to harvest what was left of the broccoli.

Most of it ended up in the tote as unusable. I weeded the area, pulled out stakes not in use and wound up the string from the rows. Then I dragged over a hay bale.

She had started weeding the garlic area before it could be mulched.

It had been several weeks since harvest and the weeds were loving the heat and rain. I left her to do this and went inside and rested a while. Then I got a load in the dishwasher and started setting up to process the broccoli.

I salvaged what I could from the tall sections and found only 1 cocoon in all I did. I was surprised as it had been out there so long and started to go by.

She used up the mulch in the driveway and came in and helped go over the broccoli. We found 3 cabbage butterfly worms and NO tiger caterpillars. So I must be doing something right with the soil, as there have been white butterflies all over since March this year.

We finished up the processing and set it to soak and she went to the co-op to get bananas for zucchini bread.

The mulch hay guy called and she got back just in time to help him unload the next 20 bales in the driveway. Then she went out and finished mulching the garlic area. That’s done until next year!

I got 2½ meals from what was left. Those are 1½ pint containers. It was 10AM and I got a shower and waited for the Senior van to take me to PT. The PT person didn’t have me do anything because something cool had happened around 9AM.

When I had been outside, I noticed that I was walking with no pain at all. I had not woken up that way. But the PT person didn’t want to do anything to change that, so she just took the history and did some testing.

Back home, I had some lunch and watched a movie. I was waiting for my oldest brother to arrive.

The wood guy had called and they brought another trailer load of wood.

He and my youngest brother and I were going to the cemetery to tend the gravesite. It was my mom’s birthday. We stopped and got scallop dinners as that was one of her favorite takeout meals.

We were surprised that so many of the plants had survived the awful heat and were still flowering. After we weeded and watered the plants we went for ice cream, another big favorite of hers. She would have had chocolate.

Back home, the house was hot. I’d not turned on the AC before I left as the house wasn’t bad. And it didn’t seem worth it to turn it on for 2 hours before I went to bed. So I went to bed late again due to the heat. And the pain had returned in the evening. Sigh…

Zucchini bread future crop July 2025.jpg

On Thursday there’s rain coming in for the rest of the day and all night. I’m planning to make a lot of zucchini bread for Tom to thank him for doing the foliar feeding when my helper friend was injured. He adores zucchini bread and banana bread. I use bananas as a substitute for something, I forget what.

My helper friend arrives at noon and we will be finishing the spring cleaning of the south wall of the office. It’s to be a much cooler day, in the 60’s.
