Office geranium bud
On Tuesday I was up at 4AM as I had a project I was working on. I got that done then got my posts up. I did a bit of online shopping and then tried to reach the electric company about the upcoming smart meter installation. No luck there so I got ready for the day and my helper friend arrived at 9:30AM.
He got some chores done while I got the kitchen cleaned up. Then we set about feeding the house plants. I still have my friend’s plants here as she had to clean and paint before she could move in. So I am trying to be more diligent about plant care.
My friend had given me a waxed bulb amaryllis for Christmas and it had a rocky start. It had tried to grow in the box. It did flower some in December but lost most of its leaves afterwards. They started to re-grow in January this year.
By May it was in full bloom again and then again in July. It got knocked to the floor after that and lost a few leaves. It grew new ones and even started a side shoot.
And here it is getting ready to flower for the 4th time in a year.
The begonia I brought in from the gardens last fall has been flowering continuously since then. It managed to survive the summer.
My little peace lily now has 5 flowers. My friend’s peace lilies are also starting to flower.
Once the house plants were fed, we started on the bushels of squash. I scrubbed off the dirt and dried mulch then they were dipped in a mild bleach solution and my helper friend carried them into the office. They will cure by the door for a week or so before going down to the root cellar.
One of the acorn squashes had been chewed on and would not store well so I baked it with butter and cinnamon for lunch.
My helper friend left at 12:30PM and I was pretty tired. I rested for a while and then got laundry started. Mostly I sat and read during the afternoon.
My neighbor stopped over and took 3 of the white pumpkins. I’m down to 11 extras now. My surrogate granddaughter wants some, so hopefully they will come visit and take some home.
One thing is not like the others….
I had to put the bean pot on the corner because someone was trying to burrow in…
When I got ready to go to bed, I had to pull the shades as it was to be low 40’sF during the night. We have mid 30’sF coming in the next few days. That will finish off the tomatoes and basil.
I was in bed by 8PM.
On Wednesday, I need to get the mums planted and start cleaning out the Small garden. I also need to start the bills/budget again.
