On Sunday morning I was up at 4:40AM. I had a LOT of photos to edit and 2 posts to get up. I only managed to get one done. I got ready and was in the Big garden harvesting lima beans by 8AM.

Tom arrived shortly after to do the foliar. He said my #3 intern was bringing my #1 intern, my general helper, and a friend to finish the wood later in the morning.

I got the first half of the lima row into one of my biggest bowls and it was heaped as high as I could get it. I got another big bowl and started on the west half of the row. This part is closer to the apple tree so gets less sun.

A thing I had noticed as I picked the first half was even though the row is barely 2’ wide, apparently the Swiss chard growing in the next row 3’ away is enough to slow ripening as the back side of the row had no pods ready. But I barely got ½ of a bowl from the second half.

As I was picking Tom was doing foliar in the rest of the garden. He noticed a couple of the kale looked like something had eaten the tops of them. It had to be deer, as nothing else could get in and eat tops. That was the only damage we could find.

I also need to do some weeding in this garden. It’s not bad but it will be easier to get the smaller weeds now than wait until November at clean out.

The wood crew showed up about 11AM. My general helper helped me get the 15 pumpkins harvested and around to the front porch. Then she went and worked with the others moving wood. The shed is full!

I had harvested the squashes and pumpkins from the Small garden while they worked. Tom carried the heavy butternut baskets into the pantry for me but I managed the acorn squashes. I had also gotten some greens for lunch.

I got the pumpkins set up on the porches. Then I got some photos and rested a while and when the large pieces of wood were in the shed, I sat and sorted the kindling out of the bark and got it into grain sacks for in the winter. Once all the big wood was in the shed, everyone started working on the kindling pile that was left. We got about half of it done before they had to go. I raked up the edges because I have to mow the yard and at the barn on Monday.

My brother came home just before they left and wanted to take me goldy mum shopping. I finished the raking and got a shower and we went off. We got lucky at the little greenhouse place in town and found a nice goldy mum. I will have to plant both of them on Monday.

I got some lunch and got ready to process the lima beans around 1PM. It takes a long time to shell the pods so I sit on the couch and watch movies while I do it.

I’ve not had such a good lima bean harvest in years and had forgotten how long it took to do 2 huge bowls full. I not only got through the Harry Potter, but also watched all of South Pacific and most of My Fair Lady. I finished at 9:30PM and put the beans in the fridge. I’d have to process them for the freezer on Monday.

So Monday I have a lot of photos to edit, 2 posts to write, the kitchen to clean up, the 2 mums to plant, the lima beans to process, and the mowing at the house and the barn.

So another long busy day….
