Backyard - leaves down from rain collage text crop Oct 2025.jpg

On Friday morning I was up at 5:30AM. I didn’t want to get up as I loved lying in my warm bed listening to the rain. I finally got up and got my post up. When it was time to pull up the shades at 7:15AM I went out to see how many leaves came off the white oak.

My helper friend arrived at 8AM while I was eating breakfast. I hadn’t finished cleaning the kitchen yet so we could feed the house plants. Once I finished eating I got the kitchen done and he fed the upstairs plants while I finished.

We got the plants on the first floor done, but I was pretty wiped out from the standing. One of the trays under one of my friend’s plant sprang a leak, so I had a big mess to clean up.

I sent my helper friend on errands while I sat down to rest. He stopped by the co-op and got a couple mangos for us to eat. So we sat and had those.

Juneberries - last harvest collage text crop Oct 2025.jpg

I really wanted to get the netting off the Juneberries. I didn’t expect to find any berries and hadn’t checked for any in weeks. But I got a decent amount, considering, and apparently the netting had protected them from the frosts. My helper friend got the netting on the clothesline to dry out while I picked.

Next we went up to the barn and got 2 T posts, the T post driver, the T post puller, and a section from one of the old hoses. I wanted to cut off all the root stock whips around the 1. North Star cherry in the Little Trees row and then pull it up straight.

I had to braid 2 lengths of baling twine for this. Just when we were finishing and cleaning up I saw my neighbor walking her dog. She came up the driveway to visit. She and her standard poodle, Jazzy, have spent several years working agility and now they are going for Masters level. Pretty impressive!

The cedar post holding the Big garden’s gate has been pretty wobbly for a while. I never got a new post so I’ve supported it with a T post until I can replace it. The T post puller was for when we go to remove the tomato stakes in this garden.

Next we got the treadmill set up and checked the tracking on it. It’s ok without anyone on it, but pulls right with me walking. But I think it will be ok for a while.

Once the rain stopped, the wind came up and got stronger in the afternoon. A lot more leaves came down. We may be able to get the tarps up early this year.

I was pretty wiped out by the time my helper friend left. I ended up in bed for a 2 hour nap. When I got up, I found an e-mail saying the inverter was ordered for the solar panel system and would be installed on November 21st.

I made some supper and went bed at 7:30PM after getting the wood stove going.

On Saturday, I have to get ready for the last window cleaning day. We will be cleaning all the doors. I hope to get him to help me get the netting off the line and folded up too. Finally windows will be finished.
