On Sunday morning I was up by 6AM and got my post up. A couple of the window shades’ rollers have broken so I got ready to order new ones on Monday. I made some breakfast and sat down for a while, intending to go out to mow at 10AM.
But Tom arrived at that time so we sat for an hour and got caught up on things. I finally went out for 11AM.
I decided I didn’t have the energy to push the little mower so I just used the rider. I had to do up at the barn so I didn’t finish until 2:30PM. The leaves were coming down much faster than I could mow them up.
It was a wonderful afternoon, warm and sunny.
The contractor had taken the thermometer home and painted the main hand green for me. I got it hung up and it promptly announced it was 83F on the front porch. Sigh… But as the sun went behind the trees it became more reasonable.
The contractor had arrived at 3PM and as I sat on the porch with him, the moon rose.
I asked my son to light the woodstove as I was still outside. The smoke drifted down over the New Herb garden then followed the driveway to the road. It looked very peculiar.
Because the end of the 2” x 4” looked so bad, the contractor decided to replace it with a pressure treated one. He had a bit of a job getting it out. But he won in the end and got the new one in, the top board in place and the railing screwed down again.
After caulking and weatherizing everything really well and filling the nail holes, he started on the post. You can see how bad the original board had gotten. Getting the new board on was as far as he got.
Once he’d gone, I had supper and was in bed by 8PM with shades pulled and wood stove going.
On Monday I have laundry to do, I hope to start paying bills/budget, I need to finish the MassHealth application, clean up the kitchen and be ready to go by 12:30PM to an event at the Senior center. After that I have an appointment, so no outside work today. The contractor hopes to come back and get some more done on the porch.
