Big garden – Snapdragon flowers
On Tuesday morning I didn’t get up until 6:15AM much to someone’s disgust. I’d gone to bed really late because it was too hot to sleep. I worked on the photos for the day’s post after feeding him and then it was time to close the house up and get started with the mowing at 7:45AM.
It was to be a brutally hot and humid day, so humid the dew doesn’t dry on the grass.
Big garden – all the peas have gone by
This is the first time I’ve been out to do anything much outside for a week or more. But the mowing HAD to get done; it was just getting worse and worse.
So I went up to the barn and got the mowers and brought them to the house. Filled with gas and oil, I started with the push mower about 8AM. The trim work had never been done by my brother so it was really bad, in addition to being soaking wet. I finally finished it by 9AM.
I started on the rider mower and did the worst area first, the pasture garden area. I had to stop every 2 passes to unplug the bagger. And it went like that until I was nearly done with mowing at the house at 10:30AM.
I was pretty hot and exhausted but I still had a mess up at the barn to clean up before I could quit. It wasn’t as bad as the sun had made some inroads on the dew. I finished at 11:45AM.
My helper friend had arrived at 9:30AM and he was inside cleaning. He’d taken the compost to the compost bins and found these squash on the way.
Once inside I got the AC going and a fan and just sat in front of it for a while. He had to go on an errand so I got into the shower. Things went south at that point, and I thought I was going to faint from exhaustion.
I managed to finish the shower and get sat down, and turned the fan on me. After a while I could finish getting dressed. It’s been a long time since I’ve pushed the envelope that far.
My hands are going to be grass stained for a long time, from pulling the grass out of the bagger chute.
I eventually found something for lunch, fixed the windows and shades against the heat as I do each day at 1PM, and went to bed. I slept for 2 hours and didn’t want to get up, but it was getting hot in the bedroom.
Sitting in front of the AC and the fan
I got a call from the PT office and now have about 10 visits set up between Wednesday and mid September. I REALLY need to get started doing it every day!
It will be another late night as it’s not to start cooling down until after 10PM. So far the pain has been very mild all day. We’ll see what a night in bed brings in the morning, after doing far too much. I have a new med that supposed to help with the pain.
My general helper is camping out here in her van tonight so we can get an early start on the poor broccoli at 6:30AM on Wednesday morning.
It needed to be processed 2 weeks ago and I just couldn’t do it. So we are going to cut all the heads off, salvage what we can, and hope side shoots come along. That’s first, at 6:30AM.
I’ll go inside and start processing if I can, and she is going to drag the remaining hay bales out of the driveway and mulch as far as she can in the garlic area. Then she will come inside and help with cleaning and processing the broccoli.
I have the appointment late morning so we need to be done by the time the Senior van arrives at 10:30AM. The mulch hay guy is coming with 20 more bales for the driveway at 10AM. So another busy hot day.
