Just as the morning sun comes over the trees
On Friday morning I was up at 5AM and got my post up. I got a load in the dishwasher and my helper friend arrived at 8AM. He got started on blanching the parsnips and while he waited for the water to re-boil between batches, he started tearing kale and stuffing serving size bags for the freezer.

By 9:30AM the parsnips were done and I’d gotten 6 quarts for chowder to go into the freezer. My #1 intern was up by then and had breakfast and we got ready and went to the Big garden around 10:15AM.

We got the area raked, almost forgot the amendment and then the broadforking, and were finally able to sit down and plant garlic. Once the first row was done, we mulched it and then got the second row laid out and broadforked. It was noon by then and she had to go at 1PM so we were just able to get the row planted but not mulched.
We got cleaned up and I got my photos. I was so tired; I had to sit down for half an hour before I could move around.
My helper friend had finished the kale, vacuumed the first floor and repotted the old jade. There had been a sprout growing OUTSIDE the pot for years but he couldn’t get that into the pot. So he left it on the counter.
I went to put the old jade back into the greenhouse window and broke off a large branch. So I put it into the soil next to the “baby” jade that I potted up.

It looks like the “baby” jade will live in the dining room window at least until my friend’s plants go home.
I sat down for about an hour and the contractor arrived just after 3PM.

He wanted to paint the railing first thing while it was still warm, so we got that done. Then he set about getting all the boards onto the right side of the porch and then caulked them. So they are water tight, more or less. He said he might be back on Sunday to start the other side.
I was so tired when he left. I got the masonry heater going as it was to be a cold night again. I got the shades pulled and the wood stove going and made supper. Then I sat down for a while until bedtime.
My brother came home late and he had to get ready to go on vacation to Madagascar early Saturday morning.
On Saturday I have the window guy coming and I have a lot of stuff to go to the cellar to be put away, storm doors to wash and put windows into, and regular doors to wash. He’s coming after noontime. So I’ve got to get ready for him. That ought to finish me off in good style….
