On Monday I was up at 3:30AM thanks to the time change. I got my post up and moved on to bills/budget. At 7AM I made some breakfast and by 8AM I was so tired I went back to bed and slept until nearly 11AM.
I got up, made some lunch and got ready to go to the event at the Senior center.

The woman from The Rose Thief had laid out a lovely assortment of pressed flowers. The Senior center had gotten small glass frames to put your selections in.

(Please excuse blurry photos.) There were thistles, hydrangea, carnations, roses, larkspur, heather, and many others. The box had lots of different greens for texture or color.
There were 18 people who attended and the Senior center had ordered more frames than they needed, so some of us made 2.

You want light to filter through them, but sun will fade the flowers quickly. I’m hoping the more sheltered clean room window will be okay for mine.
I thought the cool thing was if you planned a little, your back side could be as interesting as the front. Some people went for more is better, and some went for very simple open layouts. I was sort of in the middle.
It was a very cool event and they are going to do it again, with larger glass frames.
The Rose Thief has a studio nearby and uses a press from the 1800’s (top photo). She explained it was very labor intensive as the paper and cardboard had to be changed daily until the flowers were dry.
What she had brought was flowers left over from previous jobs.
When I got home, I sat down for a while. The contractor and another person to help outside were to come but I didn’t expect to see either as it was to rain by 6PM.

But the contractor showed up at 3PM and managed to get the left side painted with 2 coats. He had to use a hair dryer to finish the second coat. But the painting of the wood is done.
The railing needs spray painted still, and there’s a hole in the ceiling to fill in before the next crop of wasps finds it.
It was nearly dark when he finished.

The other person arrived after dark. I turned on the outside lights and he set to work pulling the tomato and peppers stakes then moving bales and mulching around the mesclun and kale. But the rain came for good when he’d been out there 45 minutes and he had to stop. He says he’ll be back again Tuesday night.
On Tuesday my helper friend comes in the morning. He’ll have errands to run and butternut soup to make. My #1 intern comes mid morning and we will go out and clean out the last section of the Big garden on the north end. Then if we have energy, we’ll mulch some. But at least there will be a place for the new person to work in the evening.
