Office spring cleaning collage text crop Oct 2025.jpg

On Tuesday I was up at 5AM and got the post up. I finished the laundry but didn’t fold it. I got the kitchen cleaned up and made some phone calls. Then I got busy prepping the office to finally finish the spring cleaning. We’d started this back in June and had gotten all but the south wall done.

My helper friend was coming at 9:30AM and this was an inside job he could do. My #1 intern was coming at 11AM and I’d be going outside then.

This book case holds the very old books, some dating back into the 1800’s. Some are my father’s books from when he was a child, some are family books, and some are from my childhood.

In front of the books are all the delicate or old family knickknacks. These were moved to the 8’ table for cleaning. We took each book out and carefully vacuumed it. The shelves were dusted and polished before we put them back. Then I dusted and polished the doors and washed the glass. My helper friend worked on dusting and polishing the outside.

We finished at 10:45AM and I sat down for 15 minutes before I had to go out to the garden. He was to keep cleaning but didn’t manage to finish everything before he left. It will be raining on Thursday and we can work on it then.

We started off in the Big garden where we had left off last time. I sat and cleaned out the kale and mesclun and grass and weeds while my #1 intern stood up and pulled up all the tomatoes, peppers, and basil.

When I got to the east side I turned around and came down the other side of the kale. There was a LOT of buggy leaves even though Tom had foliar fed until October 1. She sat down and cleaned out the pepper and tomato area. When I reached the west fence, I turned around and worked my way up the far side of the tomato stakes and did some of the onion area.

We had cleaned out nearly 5/6 of the garden. But we were tired and decided to leave the mulching for another day.

When we were cleaning up, I saw the leaves were getting pretty deep in the backyard, even though I had just mowed on Sunday. I commented I needed to mow them again now, but couldn’t as I was doing windows on Wednesday and it was to rain on Thursday. My #1 intern said she could mow on Wednesday as it would just be the riding mower. Cool!

Then I looked up to see how many were left on the tree (a lot) and noticed the gutters. I need to make an appointment with the gutter cleaners but not until the leaves are off the oak tree.

We got cleaned up and I got my photos and went in for a shower. I had to go get blood work done and she was taking me. When we got back, the contractor had arrived.

He’d decided due to the forecast to get the sanding and priming done before it rained as it wasn’t going to be as warm afterwards. He would still need a day to do the painting, and maybe 2 if it’s not sunny and warm.

As I was pulling the shades around 6PM the sky was a deep pink around the moon. I got both stoves going as it was to be 31F and went to bed at 7:30PM.

On Wednesday I need to get set up to do the windows in the bedroom and living room and to change out the window in the front storm door. I sure hope the last one fits that door!

My #1 intern arrives at 11AM and I’ll have to show her about the mowing. The window guy arrives at 12:30PM so another long day.
