Thursday morning when I woke at 6:30AM I had a cat who had figured out how to open the screen door on my bedroom and was on my stomach staring me in the face.
There’s a hook on the door but I had not latched it when I was up at 4AM for meds. I will have to start latching it now he’s figured out how to open the door.
So I got up and fed the dying cat (the move with the door was sheer desperation before final demise) and then got my post up. It took me a while to get moving but around 9AM I went out and cleaned the kitchen up. I had to rest a while and at 9:30AM I got started on making zucchini bread for Tom and family.
I didn’t know how many of the zucchini I would use per recipe so set up to do 2 loaves at once.
Soon every counter top was covered with equipment. There was another counter with 2 more bowls to hold the 2nd batch.
I did add 1 more egg to the recipe.
I had one batch baking and took it out to cool when my helper friend arrived at 11:30AM. He was going to take the first 2 batches over to Tom’s house by 2PM. Tom was leaving on a short vacation and I wanted to have fresh from the oven loaves for him to bring.
We got the first batch of 2 cooled enough to wrap for the freezer, then the 2nd batch of 2 cooled enough for him to bring with him on the drive up. They got there in time for 2PM.
I had run out of eggs and bananas for the last batches, so my helper friend stopped at the co-op on his way home and got more.
We got the 3rd batch in the oven and then out to cool. Once they were out of the pans we had the last 2 batches made up and waiting to go in.
There was 1 small zucchini left after all these. And there are more coming…
The day had turned to rain and cooled down as the day progressed. It was to rain most of Thursday night. So a very good day for baking all day.
They went in just before he had to go so I kept an eye on them. They came out around 5PM.
I got the 2 cooled off ones wrapped and in the freezer and then waited for the last 2 to cool off so they could be frozen.
I’d really tried to not eat any, but one of the last ones was attacked in the evening. The other made it in the freezer. So there are 7 loaves for Tom and family.
The kitchen sink was full but I had cleaned up most of the mess while waiting for the loaves to bake. I would get to the rest of the mess sometime.
On Friday my #3 intern and my general helper are coming. The rain from Thursday will have stopped and it’s to be cool and cloudy. The plan is to get the remaining netting off the line, patch the holes and get it over the elderberries. We’ll see how far we can get. My general helper has to leave at 10:30AM but I don’t know how long my #3 intern will stay.
