The world we live in today has become so noisy that it never stops talking from all types of buzzing notifications to chasing of meeting up with deadlines to endless scrolling and demands from people and at this moment, it usually looks like silence is now extinct. In the noisy world that we live in today, to remain focused on what you are doing is no longer a talent, it is an act of resistance and fighting against distractions so to say.

The distraction most of us are faced with in this present time is not something that is always external, some are within the inside of us. FOMO, which a lot of people calls the FEAR OF MISSING OUT, comparing yourself with others, doing more than yourself, the unsettled mindset always moving from one thoughts to another, these things always push us from the current moment. The psychologist will always tell us that the attention of we humans is starting to shrink, meanwhile, we are battling with restlessness which is a slow killer. And this has been magnified by technology, the only difference so far.
So how do I stay focused? Personally it all starts with intentionality. I always tell myself that in this life, it is not everything that requires my attention even when I am being called to it. Sometimes, what you choose not to do matters most than what you choose to do. When I decide to put my phone on DND for some couple of hours, I am not only trying to get less disturbed by the noise of the buzzing, I am getting back a part of myself.
A lot of people have now developed this funny interest in showing off that they are busy by doing a lot of things at once, meanwhile in the real sense of it, the growth that you and I need does not need rush, I comes from taking out time to do things in stillness and placing our focus on it. A former does not scatter his seeds everywhere and sit back to harvest bountifully, he decides on where to plant those seeds with proper care. And this is what being focused implies... consistent, patient and mindful.

Sometimes for me, remaining focused comes from little rituals such as penning down the list of things that I want to do, deciding to pause my breathe, staying grateful or tidying up my environment to keep it more safe and clean, I am also kind to myself when things does not go my way and I get distracted, because from being disciplined, thst is where patience, not guilt grows.
In the end , staying focused is not about stopping and the distraction that might come my way, it is about bringing myself back as much as possible to the things that matters. In a world where everything is so noisy, remaining focused is not about shutting out everything, but it is all about attaching more importance to those things that really matters and counts.
