When Money Became the Master

I can remember one of the stories my dad once told us. He said there is this man he stayed with when he was growing up, but the man happened to be one of the teachers in that community they stayed in, and every evening, he would usually gather the children around to teach them, and even though most of the time, it was pro bono, he was just doing it out of the goodness of his heart and did not really care about the money, only if the children of those kids decided to compliment him with a little amount. And I have also heard stories where our forefathers often went to each other's farms to work, not because of the money but because they were assisting each other for meaning and not for survival, as most people now do these days. ![unnamed (38).jpg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmYpoNckjAZsxSw5w4qSXV5tQBEfunWDY1p1cNMn3rTDsm/unnamed%20(38).jpg) Today, if I am being honest, nothing really feels real again because, from my point of view, it all looks like a business deal, even to the point of our relationships. Even in most of the organizations today, everything now has a price tag. If you do not give them a brown envelope and thank them with a smile on your face, what you ask them to do will not take effect except if you pay for what is meant to be free. And if you tune in to radio stations, you see different advertisements of schools saying what they can not deliver just to entice pupils. And to tell the truth, most of our churches have turned into businesses where pastors rake in money to fund their lifestyles. Our world has now turned into “How much are you willing to pay me?” even before you hear “Good day, hope you are feeling well.” These are the things I have seen and am still seeing. But, to be sincere, whose fault is all this? Yes, the system keeps failing us day and night. And when I look at it from my perspective the price of things keeps soaring higher; nothing seems to be improving, only getting worse on a daily basis. Everything around us especially in this country where I am seem to be crashing out, and all we are after is paying bills and putting food on the table. And yet, it keeps surprising me that in this pursuit of daily life and money, I hope we are still maintaining sanity and we are not throwing away our souls. ![unnamed (39).jpg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmY6gqoFPdhTdjdpk5U9WEKu1jgbo34Zwy8QFFRuxjXwCz/unnamed%20(39).jpg) Like we usually say, charity begins at home, and I believe that everything needs to start within our homes if we truly want to redefine everything around us positively. It must start with us, and then we pass it to our kids, and for those of us who are yet to be born, when we eventually do, we should always tell those young ones that to be fulfilled in life is not always attached to wealth and riches. And in our world where people now seem to attach more importance to money than humanity, I think the best we can do is to keep praising those who are doing things willingly, not minding if money is attached or not. And with what I have seen in these developed countries, I have discovered that they keep growing because they have purpose and visionary leaders and not based on their personal interests and profits. And maybe if we can set our priorities right, money can be serving us and it will not be our master. --- Thank you for reading. > Images created by MetaAi
