We all want success in life. We want to succeed in our field, in our endeavour. We want to achieve great things. But how do we achieve these things if we don't put in the hard work? How do we achieve it if we don't follow the process? Even if both bad and good, even if we all take process to achieve, whether you are trying to achieve a bad thing or a good thing, you still need put in work.
So when it comes to working hard to achieve our goals, there are two things that come in place, which is motivation and discipline. Most of all depends on motivation. Why some of us depend on discipline? Why some depend on both motivation and discipline? But one of the important things that keeps us moving forward is discipline.
For me, I used to be a motivational expert. I always believed in motivation. I love something that gives me a high spirit. I listen to motivational posts a lot. Sometimes when I finish watching a movie, I get inspired to achieve things. And depending on motivation too much, life taught me the hard way. And I found out that discipline was the best way to achieve success. It's the only way to go.
Motivation can start or keep you, kickstart you. It's just like a beautiful and energizing feeling, but it is unpredictable, because it comes and goes. So when you are in that moment when you are pumped up, you're energized, and after watching those inspirational movie of your top actors or motivational videos, telling you that you can be the best. But all these things are just tied to emotions. Just a bad day or just a rejection can just bring you back to default and making you feel tired and not wanting to continue again.
I remember my days in school. I remember my days in school where I was struggling to read. Sometimes I would take off a motivation quote from others telling me that I can't succeed if I work hard. And that day I would feel like to read. But the next day I would feel tired. I would feel like losing hope and giving up. I would go back to my short days. Even when I tried to build my fitness, it didn't also work too. I tried to watch so a lot of motivational to boost me, to boost my fitness level. But those motivations were not enough. Because after starting the day, I fell off. The motivation just vanished all of a sudden. That is why I said rely don't on motivation alone. It is never perfect.
Discipline on the other hand is very important. It doesn't care about how you feel at the moment. You just have to get up and do it anyway. You need discipline to succeed completely in this life. Without discipline you are nothing because there are some days you don't feel like doing things. But you just have to because it is very necessary to achieve what you want to achieve. It's not about those flashy emotional feelings but it is about being consistent.
So when you finally embrace this kind of discipline, things can change. I started little by little by reading during my college days. Maybe taking 20 minutes each day reading or 30 minutes. It was all I needed to be consistent and disciplined and to stick to what I thought instead of waiting for the motivation to read. So some days, even during my fitness, some days I feel like I never had the strength to go out to work but setting an alarm, forcing myself, sometimes doing something to help me to get me going is what really helped me. It was all about consistency and that is what saved the day.
And the truth is, motivation can start the engine but discipline is the fuel that keeps it running. Motivation is the spark. It is very okay to feel motivated but discipline is the main fuel. So if you want to succeed or you need a lasting growth that will take you for a long time, discipline always wins. Depending on motivation is like a risk. So all these my experience have taught me that waiting for that inspiration, that moment to come is like wasting years of the opportunity.
If you are planning to achieve anything important, don't wait for that perfect mood or that perfect time to do something. There is no perfect time. You just have to keep building, be consistent, be disciplined, start small, stay consistent and with time improve yourself and you will be amazed at how far this takes you.
