From my screen.
Straw was another emotional movie I’ve watched this year. It really opened my eyes to the struggles women face in raising their kids, and how challenging it can be for single mothers.
She has spent a lot taking care of her daughter's health, cried when they took the daughter away from her. That part was took emotional for me.
This part made me cry so much.
The most touching part for me was seeing the bank manager support her — standing by her even after knowing her daughter was dead. That level of empathy and presence is rare. Often, it’s people we don’t even know personally who end up rooting for us the most.
On the other hand, I couldn’t understand why her boss was so heartless. They were both Black, so I couldn’t attribute it to racial bias. It made me reflect on how sometimes cruelty has no obvious explanation.
The pain of loosing her child was so traumatizing for her, I thought if she would ever heal from the pain.
From this movie, I learned not to jump to conclusions without knowing the full story. People may not always owe us an explanation for their behavior, but we can choose to ease their pain by making excuses for them instead of judging.
Overall, the movie was captivating — the storyline, the acting, and the cinematography were all well done. I’d rate it 9/10.
