The children detected a problem and worked out a solution! Mamma's computer screen was damaged. The computer still worked, but we can't close the laptop and it feels very fragile.
The four biggest children have been saving up money for the last few months and saved up enough for a new laptop!
The specs are not super high-end, but it's enough to run the programs she needs. We were looking at chromebooks because they were the only PC's in their price range, but then we found this one with Windows installed for under $200.

The children worked hard for the money to purchase this, but it's amazing how the cost of computer has dropped so much. Back when I was selling Gateways (1997 - 2004) an entry level laptop price was well over $1000. It was a big deal getting one for under $1K.
I remember selling this "affordable" laptop many years ago. Granted that was a looooong time ago, but today we have a respectable laptop for under $200, cheaper than most printers I was selling back then.
