Exploring a Lake With Peninsula - Peraküla Springlake

Back in June, when we had the longest days of the year, I wanted to go camping. Which I of course did, but I also wanted to check out this interesting-looking lake on my way to the campsite. It's located in north-western Estonia. The name in Estonian is Peraküla Allikajärv. Allikas meaning springwater. The lake is not round or anywhere near that. There is a peninsula in the middle of the lake and you can go and walk on it.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from a parking spot to the lake through the forest. The forest itself is also really beautiful with its long pine trees without lower branches.

Arriving at the lake, this view appears. What you can see on the right side is the peninsula side. FRS_7729.jpg

I'm going to include the satellite photo from Google Maps, to give you a better idea how what this lake looks like from above. You can clearly see a landmass in the middle of the lake. ilm.JPG

Why has the lake formed this way? I have no idea, honestly. I want to say that the peninsula is there because of how the glaciers shaped the landscape during the ice age, but something tells me, it's not it.

Here I'm already on the peninsula part and walking towards the top of it. FRS_7708.jpg

Once at the top, you can look around yourself and see that you are surrounded by water on all three sides. Of course, every view in every direction is really beautiful with this untouched nature. FRS_7719.jpg

Quite a lot of reeds grow in the lakewater. The lake is not very deep, about 1.5 meters on average and sits in the middle of a larger wetland. FRS_7720.jpg

It would be quite a nice spot to pitch a tent. Come out of the tent in the morning and jump straight into the water. If I were into fishing( which I'm not really ), it would be quite a prime spot to take out the rod and catch dinner while camping. Not sure what fish live in this lake. FRS_7721.jpg

Just a beautiful scenery with these flowers and the setting sun shining through the many trees in the area. FRS_7722.jpg

Having spent for a while sitting at the lakeside, it was time for me to head back because I needed to find a camping spot for the evening. It was already around half past 8 in the evening.

While I was walking back the sun and trees had created this mesmerizing sight with shadows. The sunshine under this forest, plus so much greenery. Most of the greenery is blueberries, which there are plentiful in this part of the country. These were not ready at the time yet unfortunately. FRS_7727.jpg

Summer is now ending and I visited a ton more not-so-well-known lakes off the beaten path this summer. I will be making posts of these in the coming months. I have not yet gotten to post-process many of my shots and that I have taken this summer during my short travels to different locations in Estonia.
