I recently made a post where we celebrated the end of the summer with relatives, in a beautiful location next to the Kaisma Lake in central Estonia. You can see this post here. This was not the only activity I did there. At some point during the evening, my girlfriend decided to go for a little hike next to the lake, through the forest and to the edge of a big wetland named Kaisma bog. There was an observation tower which has some beautiful views over the wetland landscapes.
Since most of this area is a wetland. We started off on the wooden pathway that went along the lakeside.
Such beautiful scenery all around, with so many of those birch trees, and right on the other side are the views of a big Kaisma lake.
We got really lucky with the weather that day. It was sunny and 24 degrees C, not very usual in September, which is considered an autumn month here in Estonia. There was also no wind at all, but this created some pretty sweaty conditions😅.
The trail along the lakeshore went on for about 1 Kilometer. Here are a couple of more photos that I took along the way.
Soon, the trail veered off into the forest. However, very quickly, this forest turned into a bogland, and the trees you see in this photo get shorter and shorter the further you go.
It looks like I forgot to take a photo of the observation tower itself. We climbed the tower, and these are the views that appeared up there. I saw no trails in this wetland, so you can really go for a walk in the bog because it's too wet.
The view was good for sure. You could see this bog from border to border. When you look at the photos then it seems like there are some hills full of trees. There are no hills, these are just higher trees vs shorter trees. It's really cool to see that.
The sky was half cloudy. Having spent a bit of time up in the tower, the sun showed itself and made the view over this wetland a bit more dynamic. It was only a moment of sunshine, but I managed to get these shots too during that time.
I remember the silence, it was deafening. When walking next to the lake, I could hear birds, crickets and so on but there, up on the tower in the big, it was a total silence and still zero wind. I liked it though. The silence had this interesting vibe I don't quite know how to explain.
It was time to walk back on the same trail we came there. It was the only trail, there was no other way. I took a couple of photos on the way back.
Right next to the lake was a spot with a table. Good for taking a breather or making some food. A nice location to camp out if needed.
When we arrived back after walking for another 1.2 kilometers, the sun was going down. Some god-rays are visible from the sky.
I don't have many bogs/wetlands left in Estonia where I haven't already been. This was one of the few that I recently saw for the first time. There are still some that I need to cross off my list, so let's see when will I explore these.
