I have probably mentioned this before but lake Kleifarvatn in Iceland is one of my favorite lakes in the country. Its just beautiful to look at and the road next to it is always a joy to drive on. I dont know how many times I have driven this road but its quite a lot during my 4 visits to Iceland. The last trip was not an exception.
The weather was also sunny and nice. If im not mistaken then I have only been there with sunshine once before so it was beautiful.
I asked my girlfriend to take some photos of the lake while I was driving.
It was the first place we visited after we had hiked to the volcano eruption the previous day. We pretty much just went there to sit down on the rocky beach and chillax a bit.
You can clearly see why I like this road. Its such a scenic one to drive.
When thwe volcano had not erupted yet then there were a lot of earthquakes in the area. One 5.3 magnitude quake shook the mountains next to the road and huge rocks fell on the road. It was about a week and a half earlier when I took these photos.
The place where we sat down had a lot of lupin flowers around. For me its like an Icelandic trademark flower but in reality its not native but an invasive plant. Icelanders dont really care that a whole country is now covered with these in the summers and they really shouldnt. In my opinion these are beautiful and make the landscape much more colorful.
It wasnt the only time we visited this lakeside during our last trip. We also went there the next day to do a picnic but thats a topic of another post!
