When we were still in the Philippines, our family shared a zeal for beaches. No matter how far they were from home. We made it a point to go to those awesome places that called out to us. One of the places we dwelt before moving to Dubai was Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort. A hidden gem settled in the crystal-clear waters near Dumaguete. Every time we wandered to Dumaguete, we would always look at this charming island far from view. My husband told us that we would visit the island. We were happy and we felt a bit sad because our eldest son and his family couldn’t come with us.
Sumilon Island is one of Oslob's best treasures. It is a stunning but tiny island with crystal-clear waters. It is just a short boat ride from the Oslob mainland in Cebu. The island is the Philippines' first underwater protected area, having been a marine sanctuary since 1974. It's no joke that there's a plethora of sea species swimming in the island's waters. Guide to the Philippines
The day of the trip came, we woke up very early and ready for the long trip ahead. Sumilon Island was quite a journey. A four hour road trip, a 45-minute ride on a RORO ferry and then another hour’s drive to the port of Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort.
When we got to the port, the quietness surprised us. We were the only visitors who came to the port. This made the whole experience feel even more special. The place was welcoming us exclusively. My husband quickly went to the information area to validate our tickets. Since we only had a day tour planned, we intended to continue our travels to Cebu later. We used blue wristbands to recognize us as guests of the island.
The crew told us the arrival of our boat. We went to the port with big smiles and excitement. The shades of turquoise pulled out endlessly. The calmness of the sea paired well with the fresh ocean air, making the sail feel peaceful. A great start to the island’s natural paradise awaits us just ahead. The sailing trip to Sumilon Island was short just 7 to 10 minutes.
Even before walking into the island, we were already astonished by its natural beauty. The crystal-clear sea and greenery made it a beautiful bliss. We were steered to a cozy cottage. We safely leave our things. Without wasting any time we started to delve the island’s beauty.
We wandered around. We were shocked by the wonderful beauty surrounding us. The lush greenery mounted the shoreline. It creates a perfect balance between land and sea. There were hammocks and chairs set up perfectly along the seaside. It offers a relaxing place with the alluring view of the gleaming water.
We continued our walk. We saw Yamashita Cave. The cave was intriguing. But we only stopped to take some photos. We didn’t go inside. We felt a bit anxious. So we decided it was best to appreciate it from a distance and move on.
Then lunchtime came. We indulged in the buffet meal that was part of our day tour package. The food was delish. And gave us the energy we needed to continue our day of venture.
After lunch, the real enjoyment began. We submerged in the island’s jacuzzi. Pure bliss as its soft bubbles soothed every muscle. Next, we made our way to the infinity pool. The swimming felt like a dream with spectacular and continuous views of the ocean all around us. Of course, we also savoured time on the beautiful beach itself. The powdery sand beneath our feet and the waves softly brushing the shore. The wide blue sky unbends endlessly above us. We took a swim in the clear waters. Feeling the refreshing stillness wash over us under the warm sun. It is making the whole experience truly unforgettable. Our son took some underwater photos of us, capturing the joy and freedom we felt in those moments.
Our Sumilon getaway was an awesome trip. It was filled with excitement and the pure bliss of nature. Though we are now living far away. The memories of Sumilon Bluewater will forever remain in our hearts. It is nature’s perfect blue escape.
