Never before reading this book I had experienced a close relationship with a story. Alice Kellen really knows how to connect with her public through her books. I am glad for being here, this time with one of the books that I loved the most. I may tell you that because I had a similar experience in my life and it was significant for me, but before letting you know about it, I am going to introduce the book.
The main characters are Ginger and Rhys. She is from London and brought up with her boyfriend, or he brought up with her. Disappointed and almost dying, she take a fly to Paris and there she meet him; a boy from the United States that works as DJ and is there for a work contrat. She does not know nobody there but by coincidence, he helps her to get a ticket in a machine and after that he offers himself to give her a tour for the nocturne city and to go to eat.
The tittle of the book comes from a moment in which she asks to him where are they and he answers exactly:
...we, on the moon...
They share a conversation night and some fun in different places, because she had to return in the morning. He leaves her at the airport and interchanged their e-mails to keep in touch, promising to see them again.
At the beginning they shared their daily routine, and dreams for the future. They meet again and start a relationship, but it does not work. They lose contact and start again with someone new, but he started into the alcohol and to lose everything and after some years, Ginger receives a call from a hospital because she is Rhys's emergency contact to inform her that he is hospitalized.
By that moment she had a baby and was divorced and takes a fly to go with him. At the end, he promises to change for her and to assume the baby and this is the happy ending. I tried to sum up almost 500 pages of beautiful and sad e - mails, tense moments and long distances.
Months before having the chance to read it, I brought up with a boyfriend that I met during Covid isolation on internet. We had a face to face meeting and felt in love at the moment. Most of our relationship and conversations were chatting because he lives in Havana and I live in Pinar del Río. We had different lifestyles, purposes, goals and ways to think. It was good while we had it, but totally different from the book, we did not had a happy ending. Another girl appeared in his life and distance was stronger than feelings. The only thing we really shared was the moon in the sky, far away from us.
I saw myself reflected in Ginger through the book, that is why I consider it my second favorite book. I am not into romance books, they are not my favorite ones, I prefer mystery and that kind of stories, but with this one I felt engaged since the beginning.
As always, I recommend it, you will not regret about it. Its tone, detailed descriptions, real emails and everything in it.
Wishing you the best: Vicky ❤️
