It was a restful Friday at home! After the Fajr prayer in the mosque and finishing reciting Surah Al Kahf, I had a long second round of morning sleep! After breakfast, I looked after the kids while my wife was busy preparing lunch!

After 11:30 am, we went to the mosque to attend the Jummah prayer. We returned before 1 pm. After having lunch, I worked on the laptop for a while. I helped my son with his studies. I also walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes. In the afternoon, we went to the rooftop!

In the evening, I walked on the treadmill for another 15 minutes. We wanted to go to a shopping center but it was cancelled later. Hence, I was at home the whole evening spending time with my kids and wife!

According to the Fitbit app, on Friday, I made 11,061 steps!

It is estimated that there are 100 trillion friendly bacteria, yeasts, and fungi in the human gut. They are quite important to maintain good health and prevent many chronic conditions. Collectively they are called microbiota!

Disrupting the balance between these friendly microbiomes is called dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is linked to many disease conditions, notably DM, CVD (cardiovascular diseases), autoimmune diseases, IBD ( inflammatory bowel disease ), asthma and other allergic conditions, obesity, etc.

A new study showed that some commonly prescribed medicines lead to such disruption. Even after stopping the medicines, the effects of dysbiosis continue for several years. Antibiotics are the most common medicine that disrupts the gut microbiome. Besides antibiotics, the following group of medicines seems to disrupt the microbiota: * PPIs (medicines used to suppress stomach acid production) * Benzodiazepines (medicine used for anxiety and sleep problems) * Metformin (used to treat DM) * Antidepressants (medicines to treat depression and related disorders) * Antipsychotics (medicines to treat mental health issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc) * Beta-blockers (medicines to treat some heart conditions like angina, rapid heart rate, etc)
