Cholera is defined as a disease which is caused by the Vibrio Cholerae bacterium. Majorly, cholera is soread through contaminated foods or liquids that we drink. As little as cholera disease may seem, it may become fatal after hours of no treatment.

This happens by getting a mild watery diarrhea and after hours of no treatment, it leads to a life-threatening dehydration. It is usually advisable to drink more water when you feel symptoms of diarrhea. As long as you eat any food or drink any fluid with the Vibrio Cholerae, some harmful toxins that causes diarrhea will be released into your body system and that’s how cholera comes to live. Also, eating unprocessed or undercooked fish may cause cholera so it’s better to make sure that our food is well cooked before we eat it.

You will surely know whether you are having cholera or not when you begin to have these symptoms. Generally, the major system of cholera is diarrhea. This is the first symptom one has when you have cholera. Other symptoms include vomiting, fast heart rate, little pee, extreme thirst due to dehydration, dizziness, fatigue weakness or muscle cramps and others.

I have also learned that there are three stages of cholera. The first stage is the evacuation stage which lasts from three to twelve hours. In this stage is where watery diarrhea, vomiting or cramps occurs. Then, the second stage is when some people’s blood pressure becomes very low and some may pass out along the line. And the third which is the final stage is when severe dehydration occurs. In this stage as well, people experience passing out which sometimes leads to death.

No matter how scary cholera may be, it is highly treatable and can be treated in any part of the world as long as the doctors are good. The natural and first way to treat cholera is hydration. One has to make sure that he or she stays hydrated all the time and this is because of the diarrhea experience such person will be having so that the lost fluids can be replaced.

Secondly, antibiotics has to be given to anyone who’s suffering from cholera. Antibiotics are very important for someone who’s having cholera. These antibiotics will help to kill every form of bacteria especially the Vibrio Cholerae which causes the bacteria itself. Most importantly, self medication is not advisable for anyone who’s having cholera. It’s better to go see the doctor so that the right medicines will be prescribed to the patient.

Normally, prevention is better than cure and this is why I am always heavy on preventing something from happening instead of the cure which may take more time, money and energy. There is an oral cholera vaccine known as Vaxcharo. This vaccine aims at preventing cholera by making the immune system fight back any form of cholera that wants to weaken the body.

Other ways to prevent cholera are drinking clean and uninfected water and food, washing our hands before and after eating. Most importantly, practicing every form of hygiene.
