I have never written about a movie while actually watching it… before now. I have seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show about 30 times so I can pretty much recite it so it is one of the few movies I can enjoy while I split my attention between the movie and my phone.

If you haven’t seen it before, you probably need to know this is one of the weirdest movies ever made… and it was on purpose. It is meant to be a bizarre, over the top, musical with a very skimpy ”plot” (and wardrobe).
If you are watching it for the first time in your home, you might want to do some research first to help you enjoy it. it might help to learn how it became a cult classic.. actually THE cult classic.
I honestly don’t know how anyone would view this movie if they just happened to stumble upon it on a streaming service.
One of the reasons I have seen it so many times is that I saw it the way it was intended: at Midnight in a movie theater surrounded by insanely rowdy fans who acted out the movie as it played. I first did this about 35 years ago. It was one of the few things teenagers could do late at night unless you were going to the local all ages club.
If your first experience with it was a showing with people screaming at the screen, dancing, throwing rice, shooting water guns and throwing toilet paper, you’d like almost anything. Thanks to this experience followed by seeing it in a theater another dozen times or so, I have that nostalgia to provide the joy when I watch it at home with my family.
Even at home, I still yell what I can remember and we always jump up to do the time warp. Even after seeing it so many times, I still find myself stumped when my family asks “why did that happen?” Most of the time, the answer is simply “because it’s Rock Horror”.
So if you are going to watch this, know what you are getting into, turn off your brain and enjoy it for the insane camp-fest it is.
