I'm guessing most of you have never heard of this 1981 song by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty, but today I can't get it out of my head. I was about to write about an awesome restaurant but I just couldn't shake this song.
Oh and it has nothing to do with my love life. Well unless you count the dysfunctional relationship I have with the Chicago Bulls as my love life.
"Baby, you'll come knocking on my front door Same old line you used to use before"
And what is that same old line? It's "Hey Hanshotfirst, I know we have been terrible for the past 30 years, but this time its different. We are really going to entertain you all season long. We are going to make a long playoff run."
Umm... no you're not. Why ya gotta lie? "Stop draggin’ my heart around"
"It's hard to think about what you've wanted It's hard to think about what you'd lost"
Umm... no it's not. I want playoff wins. And what you've lost is about 1500 game ssince you mattered.
"I know you really wanna tell me goodbye"
Yes. I do. But I freaking love basketball.
"Baby, you could never look me in the eye Yeah, you buckle with the weight of the words"
Yep they continue to lie to me and tell me they know what they are doing. "Stop draggin’ my heart around"
"You need someone looking after you"
Clearly the front office needs someone looking after them as they are biggest morons in the league.
"Stop draggin’ my heart around Stop draggin’ my heart around Stop draggin’ my heart around Stop draggin’ my heart around"
So what has got me so pissed this time? A few weeks ago it seemed the Bulls were going to do the smart thing and up their offer to Josh Giddey. But no. They are sticking with a low-ball offer (yes in today's NBA it is low-ball to offer the guy with the 7th best assists per game average only $20 million per year.) Normally, this would just be the Bulls being dumb, but this time it is even worse. You see, the Bulls traded their most valuable asset, Alex Caruso, for Giddey. Literally every playoff team want Caruso is one of the best 3 and D guys in the league. He is actually one of the best D guys period. He was also on a reasonable contract. Teams were salivating at the thought of adding him to their team. Everybody thought he would be a final piece of the championship puzzle. And what do you know... the team that got him won the NBA Championship!
The Bulls were offered trade packages that included multiple first round picks, but the Bulls simply had to have Giddey (who OKC desperately wanted to get rid of). The Bulls did not even get one of the 1 million 1st round picks OKC owns. The Bulls thought Giddey was so good, he was worth trading their most valuable asset for him.
And in the shock of all shocks... Giddey played out of his mind during the second half of the season. He actually looked good enough to justify the trade. But that would make the Bulls look smart. And we all know we can't have that. So now the Bulls are dangerously close to losing Giddey for nothing next year. This illustrates two huge problems. The Bulls believe they traded their most valuable asset for a player who is not worth $25 million per season. And they did not get enough in the trade for Giddey. There is a real chance they walk away from this terrible deal with nothing.
"Stop draggin’ my heart around".
Just pay the man his money!
