Flew Home Alone with a 17-Month-Old Toddler

So my sisters, aunt and mum asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I was just casually blurting out, "I want to go back home."

Then it happened!

It was just one week ago when they asked me this question. I have been wanting to go back with the husband and family because I have missed all the Chinese New Year reunions and nephew's birthday celebrations. The husband has changed job recently so I still do not know when the whole family can fly back, considering also the boys' school schedule and my teaching schedule. So my sisters gave a brilliant idea: why not I fly back with the youngest toddler only since my teaching break has begun?

My usual overthinking self would not take this risk. I will be thinking: Oh, it is too last-minute to plan such a trip. What about the boys' school pick ups? How about their homework?

But I was already drowning in so many home tasks, cooking and juggling the children being sick, so I took this offer after discussing with the mum in law and husband. Thankful for them to still hold the fort here as I go back to Kuching for 6 days.

So, off I flew with the youngest!

I was already having a lot of anxiety as this would be her first flight. A kind friend drove us to the airport. The distance to the airport in Kuala Lumpur is about 1 hour 15 minute- drive. So it is actually a bit far.

I said goodbyes to my boys as they sent us off in our friend's car.

Had to entertain the toddler in the car.

Upon reaching the airport, I proudly tried out this "travel hack system" I learnt from TikTok that can use the stroller's help to pull the suitcase along. I have trial run it once at home to make sure it works with some huge carabiners. After all, traveling with a baby is no joke.

During the waiting time to board, I was thankful I brought the stroller along to hold her while I use the toilet and she continued to wait patiently with me.

Thank God there was no delay for the flight. The baby drank milk and slept at take off.

When she was napping, I was looking out of the window and saw this magnificent view of the sunset.

However, upon landing, she was crying her lungs out and got woken up from her nap by the difference of the ear pressure. I felt so helpless in consoling her. The passenger next to me was kind enough to try to help distract her a bit. He is a father himself. Finally, she could calm down a little when I sang "Twinkle twinkle little stars" to her. I tried my best to remain calm though I was already panicking inside.

So we finally reaching Kuching at 8pm after we started our journey at 230pm.

My mum prepared some local Kuching kolo mee and dumplings for us to have as our dinner.

We made it, just the two of us!!!! Thank God there was no delay for the flight because I was running out of entertainment!
