Huldreheimen
Last Sunday we had great weather in northern Norway. It was the warmest day so far this year with sun and around around - 3 degree celsius, so no need for much clothes under the wind jacket. The goal for the ski trip was an open cottage called Huldreheimen. The name means the home of the Hulder. The Hulder is a forest creature similar to sirens or nymphs. Even the nice weather we did not see any of these creatures, maybe they like foggy mysterious days better....
The trails pass through a beautiful woodland with moderate inclines and is around 6 km. The sun is still make long shadows in the middle of the day. Each day the sun is around 8 minutes longer above the horizon. So we are at full speed towards longer days.
Halfway we are mostly above the tree line and got a nice view of the surrounding area.
The cottage is placed with a view toward the Ballangen municipality and the fjord "Ofotfjorden". In the cottage it is possible for visitors to make fire and rest.
It was nice to sit in the sun and enjoy hot chocolate and food without freezing and get a little invisible tan from the sun.
You can see the centrum/ village of Ballangen by the sea.
We used around 1 hour and 40 minus up to the cottage. The return was easy with lots of fun downhill skiing. From we started and was back to the starting point we used around 45 minutes.
On this trail I expected mostly forest terrain with little view over the landscape. The tour was better than i imagined. The ski trail is good and the view is great when above the tree line, and last but not least the coffee was perfect.
Best regards Harald
