Mercy is pardon given for disobedience. In better terms mercy could be seen as relenting, forbearance to cause or allow harm to another. It is one attribute that every Christian should possess. Mercy speaks for sinners and washes them of their sins through the blood. From our Bible scripture (Jer.3:12-15), God is telling us to come to him that He will not look on us in anger for He is merciful, if the creator himself could call unto you to come to Him even after you backslided and have left the faith then who are you to refuse.
Remember the story of the prodigal son and how he came back for forgiveness from his father and after being forgiven was celebrated by his father. This is exactly what God has planned fo us. He said in his word that the thought he has towards us are thought of good and not of evil to give us an expected end. You can never have an expected end when you are still in sin. He is crying " come to me all who thirst and are heavy laden and I will give you rest". Do not miss this opportunity I beg you. He is ready to accept you.
