This is Blue Lake in Waimangu volanci valley, which is a privately run nature park near Rotorua in New Zealand. It is renowned for its unique geothermal origins and spectacular natural beauty. Known scientifically as Inferno Crater Lake, this striking body of water dazzles with its intense turquoise-blue hue, caused by dissolved silica and fluctuating temperature, making it one of the world’s most unusual geothermal lakes. Inferno Crater is highly acidic, with temperatures and water levels that rise and fall in a cycle driven by complex geothermal processes deep beneath the ground. It was a truly amazing thing to see, we were also here entirely by ourselves (they severely limit entrances to the park and then you end up quite spread out as you make your way done to the larger lake at the bottom) so it was quite magical to have this lake simmering in the sun with the intense mist coming off it.

Waimangu Volcanic Valley itself was created by the massive eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886, which devastated the surrounding landscape and led to the formation of these remarkable crater lakes. Today, walking trails connect Inferno Crater, the world’s largest hot spring Frying Pan Lake, and Lake Rotomahana—the resting place of the famous Pink and White Terraces. The valley’s protected status ensures rich native birdlife, rare geothermal vegetation, and untouched forest. It really is an amazing place to spend, what will end up being most of the day. This lake is only one of about 10 different, 'wow never seen anything like before moments from that day Inferno
