This will be an irregular series of posts - in these posts I'm going to look back into my archive to see what photos I took this day in previous years
This 'Not from Today' but it is from the 2nd of October, let's do this chronologically
2003 - from a time I had a analogue blog (that's a journal I guess) here is what I wrote that day:
Is there anything more romantic, more carefree, more black and white photo of a dog in a tuxedo on a beach than the speedy country drive? Where was I, who the hell knows, maybe somewhere down the Mornington Peninsula outside of Melbourne.
2007 - For a long time I considered this shot to do one of the best I'd ever taken, looking back I'm not sure I was doing much of work here, sure it's a good shot, but other than knowing to keep a shutter open for a while there is not much to it - and blurry why was everything blurry back then?
2008 - I remember going out specifically for this shot, I had a idea of making a photograph and framing it for my wife, then girlfriend, why did I think she would want a photo of a speedboat and the skyline of Docklands in Melbourne, who knows, having said that I think the building which is being built in the background is the building where she would work about 10 years later.
2015 - I have a blog at this point called 12 years gone, which looks back on the original journal (from 2003) 12 years later. This is the photo I took that day and here is what I said: An afternoon in the country replaced by a night in the city. The drive from country town to suburban home with a stroll through the park from the latest hot right now eatery to an city fringe apartment.
2018 - I was in Bondi in Sydney, it was a conference for my work. Like these things tend to do there was a motivational speech about our journey as a company and how about everyone needed to be on the metaphorical bus because it was going to be amazing. Then we all got on actual buses for the trip back to the hotel, except they didn't order enough buses and some people, me included managed to be left behind, not a good omen. two month later they would try to make me redundant
2019 - It's a year later, I'm back in Melbourne, this is on walk home from work, I had dodged the first redundancy, now I was pushing hard for one, within 6 weeks I'd stopped turning up to work, within 12 weeks they finally got their shit together and gave me my redundancy payout.
2021 - We are in the back streets of North Melbourne, chances are it was sunny and I had time to spare so I set off to photograph, in fact this might have been from a 'Scenes from a Bike' shoot which is another series of posts I don't do often enough.
2024 - I'm about to start a new job, so just before starting I take off to spend a few days with my brother and my neices, this is in Tooradin on the way there, and yeah the feeling of being on the road on a weekday with nothing to do now but starting a new job soon was great
And that my friends was my life on the 2nd of October but not from today-
