The Crochet Obsession - Part 1 - Cats & Bats

Greetings Hive friends!

I must have been about five years old when I first attempted crochet, my clumsy little hands fumbling with the yarn while attempting to make a simple chain. All the while my grandmother proudly offered support, advice and encouragement. The resultant messes of yarn were of course treated as something special. I was...well hooked from there on.

It wasn't until my mid 20's that I started crocheting whenever I felt anxious or depressed. For the longest time, I could only crochet granny square blankets. Since, I have made a pineapple skirt dress which I am rather proud of.

It was only recently, in an attempt to make my favourite being smile, that I attempted to make crochet toys (I had made a duck and pokeball before but had no idea what I was doing back then...okay I still don't really). Anyways...It started with a pair of basic no sew loaf cats and has since just become a thing. A weird little collection of tiny silly gifts.

My first no sew loaf cats, made from scraps. These proved to be very addictive to make.

A very big red and orange loaf, inspired by two real life orange boys.

Yet another loaf cat. I had not yet learnt how to do the faces properly.

The second free cat pattern I attempted. The ears are a bit weird on the first one, but part of making these is embracing all imperfections. They all have their own little personality in a way.

I call him Scraps The Bat, for obvious reasons, the face was created on request and is my favourite part.

This is probably my favourite bat (I have made more but will be posting them in parts 2 & 3) I am planning on attempting it again, the teeth bug me to no end but I still think he is adorable.

That's it for part 1. In future posts, I get more creative and experimental, even learning how to crochet and embroider eyes and add whiskers.

In Part 2 I will be showing : 2 Versions of 'Crazy Eye Cats, Sculpted sitting cat, crochet heart, little raven, sleepy kitten, tiny bat, a winged cat of my own creation and the J&S dolls created from a basic doll pattern that I very loosely followed. Patterns for all these are free and will also be linked.

Well that's it for now. Till next time!

Credit - All content in this post has been created by and belongs to me, however I do not and have not created the linked patterns, only the actual toys created.
