On the 1st day of October 2025,Nigeria my country celebrated 65years of independence. A Brief History into how Nigeria got her independence is based on the fact that before we got our independence from the Colonial rule on October 1st 1960, we were practically under the British control by Frederick Lord lugard.

In 1954, Nigeria began to have prominent leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, etc. These men were actively involved in politics and where concerned with pushing of a nation where we can Govern ourselves void of the British interference. In 1954 Nigeria became a federation while on October 1st 1960 we were declared an independent nation and had Abubakar Tafawa Balewa as the first Prime minister of the country.

It has been 65 years that the nation Nigeria has stood tall in the midst of trials and tribulation. We have grown to a Reasonable stage in terms of our culture, strength, delicacies and so many more. Although, we cannot entirely say that things has been rosy because even as at 65 we have a lot to do to grow the nation as people of the country. In terms of infrastructural growth and the Governance of the country we are still lacking behind.

Aside from all these, one thing I love about my country is the diversity in the kinds of food we eat in our country. Based on the fact that they are three ethnic groups in the country which consist of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba, the food grown in our locality is one that is nutritious and delicious because they require natural and organic ingredients to prepare them.

In my culture which is the Yoruba tribe we have different varieties of foods that serves different occasions such as pounded yam,efo riro, egusi, black soup, amala, okra soup, asun, afang, ankara, suya, kilisi, yam, tuwo shinkafa, moimoi etc but in diversity we have delicacies like ogbono, banga soup, starch, ebesera, edikakong, ofe onugbu, fufu, semi, wheat, bitterleaf soup etc.

Why I love the African dish so much is that it is beneficial for our health, most of the ingredients are not man-made but natural gotten from farms. They add the necessary nutrients necessary for a person to be healthy and versatile such as vitamins a, b, c, d, E, protein, carbohydrates, minerals etc.

I am always nostalgic for home whenever I cannot access good and quality traditional meals because they not only nourish the body they also nourish the soul. Nigerians are known to have indigenous foods reflect the country’s rich culture and diversity.

These meals are not just ordinary because it reflects the fact that Nigerians are creative with their dishes, which in turn produces delicious and healthy delicacies. These delicacies have been used to keep traditions going by uniting people and families. In various occasions such as marriages, burials, birthdays, anniversary and so on, local meals are popularly served. In yoruba land there is a trend where the popular and delicious dish called amala with ewedu, gbegiri and stew is served at parties.
