Today I'm showing you a corner of an alley in the Hochelaga Maisonneuve neighborhood of Montreal that has been completely repainted by three artists. It's a shame that part of it has been tagged, but this transformation is still interesting, much better than a traditional brick wall. This is the work of Origami, Syrup, and Omar Bernal.
Aujourd'hui je vous présente un coin de ruelle dans le quartier Hochelaga Maisonneuve à Montréal complétement repeint par trois artistes. Dommage qu'une partie a été tagguée mais cette transformation reste quand même intéressante, bien mieux qu'un mur de briques traditionnel. Il s'agit du travail de Origami, Syrup et Omar Bernal.

This is the corner of the alley on Joliette Street north of Sainte Catherine Street in Montreal. The Hochelaga Maisonneuve neighborhood is a treasure trove for StreetArt. Treasures are hidden on almost every street corner 😀.
Il s'agit du coin de la ruelle sur la rue Joliette au nord de la rue Sainte Catherine à Montréal. Le quartier d'Hochelaga Maisonneuve est une mine pour le StreetArt. Des trésors se cachent presque à chaque coin de rue 😀.

Origami & Syrup
The mural in the alleyway is a collaboration between artists Origami and Syrup, Montreal artists who are particularly active in the neighborhood and often feature at the Legal Wall de Rouen. As a reminder, Origami often paints black and white portraits of women from behind with long hair surrounded by origami cranes. The cranes disappear quickly, but this is done on purpose, to send them on a journey.
Le mur dans la ruelle est une collaboration entre les artistes Origami et Syrup, des artistes montréalais assez actifs surtout dans le quartier souvent présent au Mur Légal de Rouen. Pour rappel, Origami peint souvent en noir et blanc des portraits féminins de dos avec de longs cheveux entourés de grues en origami. Les grues disparaissent rapidement mais cela est fait exprès, pour les faire voyager.
As for Syrup aka Gabriel Lenfesty, he likes to paint animals in a very realistic style. These are often birds, as in this case with this Great Horned Owl. His works are always magnificent. I like the mix of the two styles on this wall, with the Origami tree adding a touch of color, like the owl's eyes.
Quant à Syrup aka Gabriel Lenfesty, il aime peindre des animaux de façon très réalistes. Il s'agit souvent des oiseaux comme ici avec ce Grand Duc. Ses oeuvres sont toujours magnifiques. J'aime bien le mélange des deux styles sur ce mur avec cet arbre de Origami apportant une touche de couleurs comme les yeux du hibou.
Omar Bernal
On the wall on Joliette Street, it's Omar Bernal, a Mexican artist based in Montreal who is also very active in the neighborhood. I don't think the two parts were done at the same time; the colorful wall with the koi fish was done in 2024. The one in the alley must have been done before that. Which wall is your favorite part? Are you more of a fish or an owl person? 😀
Sur le mur dans la rue Joliette, il s'agit Omar Bernal, artiste mexicain installé à Montréal, aussi très présent dans le quartier. Je ne pense pas que les deux parties ont été faites en même temps, le mur coloré avec les poissons Koi a été fait en 2024. Celui dans la ruelle a du être fait avant. Quel est votre mur préféré ? Etes-vous plus poisson ou hubou?** 😀
