My Experience as a Young Boy
I grew up among the area boys. Have you ever heard of yahoo yahoo? It’s a common term in Nigeria used for internet fraud. One day, I was in a tricycle heading towards the Ijebu-Igbo axis. Some yahoo guys were riding with me.
When we got to a police checkpoint, I noticed something strange—the police didn’t bother to check them. They just passed through, unbothered. After the checkpoint, the guys told the driver to stop whenever they saw an old man (a baba) by the roadside.
Eventually, the maruwa (tricycle) stopped near one. They handed their phones to the old man and gave him some money. The baba was happy and prayed for them. I was confused at first, but soon I realized what was happening. These guys were yahoo boys, fraudsters who deceive people for money.
But I begged to differ.
I chose a different path. I chose clean wealth. Honest work. A life of integrity, even if it takes longer to shine. An old man praying for a yahoo guy... what is the issue? There is land. What is wrong with our youths? Ease in this case was more detrimental to progress! I thouht... ah ahhhh God help us.
