Weekends at home usually mean one thing for us. It’s “labadami day” or laundry day! Which I think is very usual for us Filipinos. Specially to those whose dayoff are during weekends.
Almost every Saturday morning, we wake up early to start the laundry before the sun gets too hot. It has become a little family routine that somehow turned into both a chore and a bonding moment rolled into one.
This weekend was no different, but it was extra fun because our daughter woke up early and joined us. Whenever she’s up while we’re doing the laundry, we let her wash some of her own clothes, like her tiny shirts and underwear. It’s our simple way of teaching her responsibility and helping her learn basic chores while she’s still young.
I always tell her that even though we have a washing machine, it’s still important to know how to wash clothes manually because someday, when she studies away from home, who knows if she’ll have one there?
She actually enjoys it specially it involves water. I guess children just loves water. Laundry time has become a fun bonding time for us. Our daughter especially loves playing with the soap bubbles. She blows the bubbles in her hands like it’s snow.
My husband often joins in the fun too. He teases her by splashing water her way, which of course leads to her splashing back. Before we know it, both of them are laughing and before we finished the laundry they're all wet already.
By the time we finish, they go for a bath immediately while I hang the clothes to dry. It's actually a little tiring from washing and rinsing. My back hurts a little but it's more fun with my little family at the side.
