Shot with Fuji XT5, 70-300mm
Earlier, I took some photos of the total lunar eclipse in the balcony. I don't even remember when the last eclipse was seen here in Asia, but I'm glad this finally came back and can be seen here.
I haven't shot the moon before although I had an idea how shooting stars usually go. A tripod, camera remote, and a zoom lens are the best way to do it.
I did a bit of research for the moon and apparently you don't really need a long exposure setting for it. But of course an eclipse a different scenario which I'm glad I also was able to adjust to.
Sep 7, 11:42 pm I started taking test shots of the moon around 11:35 pm during the penumbral eclipse. It had already started dimming at 11:27 pm but I started late because I forgot the time it's supposed to go and I thought it would start later at 11:50 pm. :p
Sep 8, 12:00 am It took me some time to find the right camera and tripod settings since this is my first time shooting the moon. I had to be creative with the tripod since the moon is right above me and my tripod has a limited angle rotation.
Sep 8, 12:12 am After 12 minutes, you can see the shadow on top better. Partial eclipse begins at 12:27 am.
Sep 8, 12:27 am The partial eclipse has begun.
Sep 8, 12:30 am Unfortunately, the clouds had started covering the moon. They can sense fear, so they start appearing when you needed them to NOT be there. I can see the clouds being so thick and wide that I figured it would take quite some time to clear again. I checked in every 20 minutes and to no luck.
Sep 8, 1:18 am Finally, the moon showed up again! I quickly took some photos while I can cos I can still see thick clouds surrounding it lol. It's crazy to think that that's our earth's shadow right there. Full eclipse begins at 1:30 am so we're almost there.
Sep 8, 1:22 am I raised the exposure a bit and was surprised to see the red already showing up which I couldn't see at a lower exposure.
Sep 8, 1:33 am The totality has begun. I love the little highlights on the edges. It gives a really nice gradient of orange.
 Sep 8, 1:46 am
Sep 8, 2:13 am The maximum eclipse is at 2:12 am. The moon is so red and so beautiful. The moon literally showed up for about 5 minutes before being covered by the clouds again. The totality lasted until 2:53 am so for others who were so lucky to get a clear sky, they were able to enjoy it much longer.
 Sep 8, 3:23 am
Sep 8, 3:55 am The shadow was almost gone here although I think what you're seeing at the bottom might be clouds instead. This was the last time the moon showed up again for me.

Here are all the shots I took for this year's Blood Moon. ❤️ 🖤 I'm glad that I was able to capture it successfully even though there were some hiccups along the way. It definitely wasn't easy but now that I learned to do it, I'm excited for another total lunar eclipse which will happen next year and will be visible here as well. Hopefully it will be the other side of the moon as well. Just kidding lol.
