She is Amelaya from Ghana. We met by chance—introduced by a friend at a cafe. When I mentioned my love for photography, she looked through some of my photos, smiled and told me she was a medicine woman and intuitive dancer who heals through movement, just passing through these mountains for a while. Then she asked if I’d like to photograph her dancing.

I said yes without a second thought.

The next day, she led me into a quiet valley below her homestay. The place felt untouched, almost like it had been waiting for a moment like this. Spring was just beginning to show—yellow flowers dotted the forest floor and the air was still and clear. It was just the two of us, with a small group of goats wandering nearby.

When Amelaya played some music and began to dance, I set aside the flowers I’d been photographing and turned my lens towards her. Her movements felt like a dialogue with the land—fluid, grounded, alive. Here are a some moments I managed to capture. I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoyed experiencing and capturing them.
