Cenando perros calientes con “Israel” [Esp/Eng]

 --- La tarde se presentaba con una densa atmósfera de nubes sobre Boa Vista, Roraima, Brasil. Los noticieros anunciaban fuertes lluvias y tormentas eléctricas para la región noreste. A pesar de la cercanía al ecuador, la habitual tensión térmica de calor intenso no se sentía en el ambiente. Caminaba por la avenida Teive Ateíde buscando una dirección para unos trámites personales. Era sábado y los comercios estaban cerrados, así que decidí ir a la parada para tomar un autobús hacia el centro de la ciudad. Tras una breve espera, abordé el transporte. > The afternoon was dense with clouds over Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. The newscasts announced heavy rain and thunderstorms for the northeastern region. Despite the proximity to the equator, the usual thermal tension of intense heat was not felt in the atmosphere. I was walking along Teive Ateíde Avenue looking for an address for some personal errands. It was Saturday and the shops were closed, so I decided to go to the bus stop to catch a bus to the city centre. After a short wait, I boarded the bus. Llegué al centro, bajé del autobús y caminé unos doscientos metros. Mi intención original era terminar mi recorrido en la Orla Taumanan, pero me detuve en la entrada del centro comercial Waikiri. Fue una parada oportuna, ya que allí pude interactuar con amigos e intercambiar ideas sobre la situación particular de los migrantes y refugiados venezolanos en la ciudad. Cada migrante lleva una experiencia única en su mochila, y yo cargo la mía sobre mis hombros. Además, llevo en mi alma el sentimiento soñador de haber encontrado una ciudad atractiva y hospitalaria, que me encanta por la presencia permanente del río Branco y su espectacular mirador. > I arrived in the centre, got off the bus and walked a couple of hundred metres. My original intention was to end my tour at Orla Taumanan, but I stopped at the entrance of Waikiri Mall. It was a timely stop, as there I was able to interact with friends and exchange ideas about the particular situation of Venezuelan migrants and refugees in the city. Every migrant carries a unique experience in his or her backpack, and I carry mine on my shoulders. I also carry in my soul the dreamy feeling of having found an attractive and hospitable city, which enchants me with the permanent presence of the Branco River and its spectacular viewpoint. ---  --- Al llegar al "servicio de lanchonete", mi amiga Mabe me ofreció una silla; eran poco más de las seis de la tarde. Ella vende perros calientes, o como se les dice aquí en Brasil, "cachorros quentes". Conversamos sobre las aventuras, venturas y desventuras que viven los migrantes y refugiados venezolanos en la región. > Arriving at the ‘lanchonete service’, my friend Mabe offered me a chair; it was just after six in the evening. She sells hot dogs, or as they are called here in Brazil, ‘cachorros quentes’. We talked about the adventures, fortunes and misfortunes of Venezuelan migrants and refugees in the region. ---  --- Mi amiga me invitó a acercarme a la mesa donde me obsequió un perro caliente. Allí estaba Israel, un migrante venezolano, a quien tuve el agrado de acompañar para degustar este vistoso y sabroso manjar. En Venezuela y en el mundo, esta culinaria destaca por el aderezo especial con el que se elabora. No faltaban en la mesa las salsas de ajo, maíz, tomate y guasacaca, todas preparadas con la sazón única de la cultura venezolana. > My friend invited me to come to the table where she gave me a hot dog. Israel, a Venezuelan migrant, was there, and I was pleased to join him to taste this colourful and tasty delicacy. In Venezuela and around the world, this cuisine stands out for the special seasoning with which it is prepared. There was no shortage of garlic, corn, tomato and guasacaca sauces on the table, all prepared with the unique seasoning of Venezuelan culture. ---  --- Compartir esta cena con Israel no fue cualquier cosa. Es, literalmente, un placer estar en la misma mesa con un compatriota migrante venezolano. Esta vivencia forma parte de la convivencia y los aprendizajes que me nutren positiva y cotidianamente, mientras disfruto de un extraordinario "cachorro quente" en la ciudad de Boa Vista, Brasil. > Sharing this dinner with Israel was not just any old thing. It is literally a pleasure to be at the same table with a fellow Venezuelan migrant. This experience is part of the coexistence and learning that nourishes me positively and daily, while I enjoy an extraordinary ‘cachorro quente’ in the city of Boa Vista, Brazil.
