Welcome, Homesteaders, to our second contest!
I've been hinting and teasing at this for a while now, and it's FINALLY here! The Homesteading Community's #yardfishing contest is officially open!
What is #yardfishing, you ask? It's what I like to call pulling weeds. I have some reasons for this, which I'll share at the end of the post, if you care to know. For now, I'll stick to the exciting stuff...
The Prizes:
I'm giving away 30HBD for this contest, which will get distributed as follows:
10HBD - To one Grand Prize Winner. This will go to the author who shines as an exemplary teacher and content creator; one who proves themselves to be the best of the best of all contestants.
5HBD - To the winner of each of 4 categories, which will be described in the rules.
The Rules:

Words must include English, so I can understand what you're saying
Any post in the Homesteading Community that meets those 3 criteria will be considered as an entry. You can enter as many times as you would like, but keep in mind that you'll need a great post to win, and spamming low quality posts will annoy the judge (me). I'll be looking for the best of the best in all categories, which means your posts should be well written, and either informative or entertaining. Your pictures should be clear, and support the story. It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: All words and pictures should be your own. Properly sourced material can be used to support your posts, but I'm really looking for originality.
I'll be looking for a winner in each of these categories:
Most Informative
This prize will go to the post that I think does the best job teaching us what you know. It can be about methods of removing weeds, methods of using weeds, methods of avoiding weeds, or anything else that I think contributes to everyone's knowledge.
Most Impressive
This prize will go the post that really shows us something superlative, whether it's one REALLY BIG weed that you managed to pull, or a HUGE pile of weeds that you pulled from your garden. The winner of this category will make people people gasp and say 'Whoa!'
Most Inventive
This prize will be for the post that I think shows the most problem-solving ingenuity. It could be a clever way you avoid, remove, or use weeds, or possibly even a very imaginative post itself, that shows us a new way to blog. It could be a new idea, or a new way to implement an old idea... show us how smart you are!
Most Entertaining
The winner of this last category will be whoever can tell me about their weeding adventures in such a way that it makes weeding sound fun! I've learned in life that 'fun' often has nothing to do with what you're doing, but how you're doing it, so entertain me with stories of how you entertain yourself while weeding your gardens!
As I said earlier, the winner of each category will get 5HBD, and I'll award one Grand Prize Winner 10HBD. Only one award per person, so we'll have a total of 5 winners. This contest will be open until the end of the year. I'll announce the end, say some nice things about the entries, and say when I'll announce the winners, on New Year's Day.

I first started calling the act of weeding 'yardfishing' because people would ask me to join them for fishing when we had weekends off from work, but I would always use that time in my gardens. At first, I told people 'I'll be fishing in my yard', then eventually shortened it to 'yardfishing'. Over the years, I figured out that pulling weeds can be a lot like fishing. I spend hours doing it, I usually have a few beers, it's difficult to get the big ones, and nobody believes you when you talk about the biggest one you ever got. They're both activities that many of us share with friends and family, and sometimes you can eat what you catch.
I hope I catch a lot of entries with this #yardfishing derby!
