It's good to see you all again! If you've been keeping track, you'll know it's been over a month since our last Homesteading newsletter, and naturally, there's been some news.
Early in January, we wrapped up the first #yardfishing contest. Participation was low, but interest was high, and the submissions were spectacular, so I'm calling it an overall win. You can check out all the entries in the winner's announcement.
There has also been some outreach from the LeoFinance community about promoting their Twitter-like microblogging platform, LeoThreads. Although this seems to still be a developing platform, I can report that it is functional. To learn more, you can check out this invitation post from @monica-ene. There was some talk about delegating some LEO to the Homesteading Community, so our votes to you would increase you LEO rewards, for posts made through the LeoFinance website.
Moving on to the true meat and bones of these posts, I've found 10 posts that I'd like to highlight in this edition. To save a little bit of time and get this way overdue edition published a little faster, I won't be breaking them into the categories we've seen the last few months. Be assured, they still cover a wonderful array of information about livestock, farming, food storage, and grounds maintenance!
Starting off this edition, @jimah1k shared with us this post about learning from our mistakes, and using that knowledge to better plan for the future. We wish him the best of luck going forward!
@george-dee gave us a glimpse into starting a small flock of chickens. I always find it hard to resist chicken pictures, so here's a look at the happy couple:
Next up, @semarekha shows us some stunning pictures, and shares some information about taking care of her very impressive garden of gourds. If you love a good look at vine-borne vegetables, this post is for you!
@johndoer123 shared with us another update on his homestead, and it's a great view into the many-faceted life of a homesteader. Auto repair, home remedies, poultry butchering, and pet amenities are a few of the covered topics!
Speaking of looks into multi-faceted lives, it would hardly be a Homesteading Highlights post without seeing something from @flemingfarm! He gives us a daily look at life on his currently snowy homestead in the Pacific Northwest.
This next post, by @edprivat, discusses the the value of heating fuel during the cold season. It also discusses the value of good relationships with your neighbors, and is full of great photos, like this one:
In one of my favorite posts for this edition, @generikat talks about ways around the rising cost of feed for poultry and other livestock. She also shares some mouth watering photos of homemade bread, and a link to how to make it!
Staying with the poultry theme, @eminentsam48 shared with us some details about his mid-sized poultry farm. This post is a good summary of the daily details requiring attention if you plan on raising chickens for market.
Hitting close to my heart, @ciadanmea blessed us with this yardfishing post, that also included a snack which looked so good, I swear I could smell it cooking! See what I mean:
Last but never least, @sunscape shared with us a marvelous recipe for pressure canning pork! I have long been a big fan of pressure canning for long-term meat storage, and I can't wait to give this recipe a try!
That's a wrap for this edition, friends! I can't tell you all how good it feels to finally be so close to hitting the "Publish" button on this edition! Thank you for being a part of our wonderful community, and for bearing with me as I continue to lag behind my desired timeline!
