Sam, are you still awake at this time?

People have asked me a couple of times if I sleep at all. Around 2, 3, 4, and even 5 am, I am still awake. Even last week, I was on a call with my friend around 4 am, debating about football, Arsenal or Chelsea, who would finish ahead at the end of the Premier League?

I have always been a midnight owl with my eyes wide open at night and during the early hours of the day. It is not insomnia, but I enjoy staying up at night until midnight. This is because I became inspired to do things, write, and play chess as a result of the silence in the world at that time. I know I joke around a lot about sleep being for the weak, but it is very important, and I do most of that during the day.

What brought about Midnight Letters?

After more than 7 years on Hive, I have never really set up any community on Hive because there is almost a community for everything on Hive. Now it popped into my mind that there are so many people out there like me who do not sleep at midnight. So I decided to create a community for people who create stuff, be it writing, poems, voice notes, letters, and anything they would like to share that they created during the midnight hours.

Some people write nice poems, listen to lovely songs, and do all other amazing things at midnight. Well, Midnight Letters is the community for you to share this stuff. I think there is a difference between writing during the day and writing at night because of the amount of clarity, at least I speak from experience. This is the source of my inspiration for starting this community.

All about Midnight Letters?

Generally, the community is an open community where you can post anything you like, ranging from your midnight thoughts to your midnight poems, to a letter to yourself as well. Also, there will be a once-in-a-while community prompt, which will not be consistent in order to maintain the freedom of creativity in the community for the members.

What can you post?

You can post basically anything in the community as long as it is at midnight where you are, and make sure it is original content, no spamming, AI, or plagiarism.

For the Members

Since Peakd allows us to showcase our titles in the community, we will be giving Midnight Owlets to active members in the community who post and engage with other posts. If you have a better suggestion on what the title should be, you can drop it in the comment section.

I @samostically have taken the role of Midnight Owl

My friend and fantastic designer @ravenmus1c, who is responsible for the nice designs, has taken the role of Nocturne.

Curation

This community is just like every other community on Hive, and I hope people get to share their midnight thoughts. And I will be curating original content in the community as well, since I spend a lot of my time curating posts at midnight. Good post, and undervalued posts are going to be curated using the @samostically account.

Rules

There are not many rules for the community, but I would like to say these:

  1. Be kind and respectful.

  2. Share only original content. No plagiarism or spam.

  3. Keep it short; aim for under 800 words per post & one post a day.

  4. Any format is welcome: letters, poems, photos, audio, video, anything basically.

  5. Use trigger warnings if your post covers sensitive topics.

  6. No hate speech, harassment, or offensive behavior.

  7. Tag with #midnightletters so others can find your work.

  8. It doesn’t matter what timezone you’re in; if it’s midnight for you, it belongs here.

  9. (Optional) Mention your local time when posting (so we know it’s truly midnight for you).

These are the few rules, and the community only allows original content, and not too many words; under 800 words is fine. You can post audios and videos of your content, but we strongly recommend you use @threespeak.
