A Little Goes A Long Way
A slow, romantic song was playing as I wiped down the kitchen counters. I swiped off all the flour, dough bits and sugar grains into the trash bin I held with my other hand. Samuel dried off the last dish and set it up in the cabinet above him. He turned to me as he took off apron ...

The Woman Who Lit Six Tiny Flames

It’s easy to say “Be strong. Keep fighting”. But to actually live it — day after day, year after year — takes a kind of courage most people will never understand. Especially if you’re a mother of six, carrying the weight of everyone’s dreams on your shoulders ...

Kootenay Reflections

The best part of this hike was the incredible reflections bouncing off the lake. The conditions were nearly perfect for this. Zero wind, and mostly sunny skies, although a bit of smoke in the air from distant forest fires. This here lake is called Yankee lake, and it is one of three lakes we hit during this loop hike ...

Tales from the Tiller - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive! My wife, best mate and now fellow Captain @millycf1976 has recently stepped up and took control of the tiller on the narrowboat and learned to drive our floating home. My absence from hive was also an absence from being able to move the boat and thus my beautiful wife stepping up to bat as it were to get things done. I’ve always been quietly amazed at her attitude towards doing new things and in doing so putting in 110% in all she does ...

Bicycle adventures in Da Nang. I find some peace and quiet

One of the things that is definitely going to get under your skin pretty quickly about living in Da Nang, which is a lovely city, is that quiet is at a premium. Everything is so noisy here and that seems to be the default. There are rules against noise pollution and I have actually seen police officers stop a car and slap around a guy that was driving around with an advertisement truck that had big speakers on it. This much is good, but I think that only happened because it was a commercial vehicle ...

Two tours, some commuting and an update of my cycling stats

Since a couple of weeks I've been posting updates of my weekly cycling stats. This forces me to look at the progress of my yearly goal (cycling 5000 kilometers) on a weekly basis. The Beauty of Meunasah Gampong Ulee Pulo

Hi Hivers On this beautiful day I was very excited to go to a beautiful place even though I had to fight with the drizzle on my journey today, the beautiful place I visited was a meunasah called Meunasah Gampong Ulee Pulo, Dewantara District. Although the weather was cloudy today, the view I enjoyed when I first arrived at this meunasah was truly breathtaking. From the outside, the meunasah was striking because of its unique gate design. The gate is flanked by two large Acehnese kupiah (traditional Javanese traditional hats) on the right and left, making the gate look truly beautiful ...

Agnosticism and the Lens: Documenting Faith (ENG-ESP)-Monomad challenge

I was once asked why I photograph religious ceremonies and rituals if I'm an atheist. Well, first, I'm not an atheist; I'm agnostic. And this doesn't mean I'm not interested in documenting experiences that represent views entirely different from, and even contrary to, my own. In fact, it's better that way, because it opens my eyes and takes me out of my comfort zone ...

Good things come in small packages

They say good things come in small packages (like perfume in a tiny vial), so this post will be rather short — though that hardly means it was effortless to put together.
