New Nft Cards: Hive Freaks.

I've always wanted to make a card game. When I was younger, of course I played pokemon. I still have violent PTSD over this Holographic Zaptos that was stolen out of my backpack in Elementary school. image.png When I was older, I played Magic the Gathering. We played at my friends house in the basement: He sold me a custom burner deck for $20. It was a great deck, full of a killer combination of fire cards. We would try to play every weekend. Not an exciting story, I know .. 🤣 But I have a lot of great memories playing collectible cards.

One other random thing I remember about cards is having a collection of "random" cards. I had a few ghetto X men cards from early 90s X men comic books. I had a few cards from games that I didn't even know how to play: They came from the back of books or tucked into better card games as promos. Some of the cards were extra thick like cardboard credit cards.

For now, I am going to just release it as a collectible series. I want to have lots of different cards, so it will basically be an art project, at least for now.

The theme of the collection will be Cyber Punk/Hacking, but also with a heavy dose of satiricism, comedy etc. There will be vague references to Hive, but it will take place in an alternate timeline. It will also have some salty themes. Most people on Hive are +18, but let's go ahead and label this game as adult themed. [Even though it's not going to be that hardcore].

image.png I shopped around for ages trying to figure out where to mint Hive Freaks. I considered Nftshowroom, basically the only option of automated nft minting on hive. However, the 0.333 minting fee seems a bit steep, at least if you are minting a large collection.

Next, I checked out the WAX chain. Atomichub has an excellent layout for Nfts and is very automated. I contacted a friend who uses WAX because most of the minting guides just say that it "costs RAM", they don't actually list the price in USD per mint. It turns out that WAX minting is even more expensive than Hive!

I eventually settled on the popular ETH site, Opensea, where anyone can mint for free. I published on the Polygon site of the website, to avoid gas fees and a one time listing fee. It was completely free for me to mint nfts! [The buyer pays the fees]. I love the playout of Opensea, it is similar to Atomichub. You can see the floor price of your collection, the total market value etc. The collection can be found HERE - - > https://opensea.io/collection/hive-freaks image.png I published only two cards so far, just to make sure everything was running smoothly. The two character cards are Beardy Haxr and Hyper Mark. Of course, any likeness to actual Hive users is coincidental. I minted 105 copies of these characters and listed 100 of them at 0.0035 ETH each, which is around $5 currently.

I will create rare cards and also ones that are more common, so hold tight if $5 seems too expensive for a single card. Although this is very cheap on Opensea. I will also make other types of cards like OBJ cards, but I don't want to tease too much.

I would like to make a game from these nfts. Either a simpler version of Splinterlands type monster battling, or more likely, a complex Rpg with leeway on the rules, like a Steve Jackson Game. For now though, let's continue to call Hive Freaks an art experiment/card collectible. I have a few other cards drawn out, so stay tuned.
