Hello world my humble greetings to everyone you're welcome to my blog, in today's post I'll be narrating my visit to the idua stream in cross River state with a natural wonder that really caught my attention.
first of all this stream is a wonder on it self cause the last time I was here it was totally more like just a small water that is passable just for me to come back here and I'm so surprised at the level of water I'm seeing such that the farmers who uses the road have to get a canoe just get through.
all tho it's rainy season here in Nigeria and so it's been raining all through raising the level of water such that no one could pass through as before, so the farmer have to make use of a small canoe to cross, since its just a small modern community the farmers here uses bike to their farms, since the water level is so high they had to put their bike in the boat to cross to the other side .
The Idua stream according to history originated from the forest of obung then flows to nsan a neighboring community from there flows through to the Awi community where we are now from here it flows through to Akamkpa and to other communities finally empties into the imo River which forms a natural boundary between Cross River (hence the name of the state*) and Akwa Ibom state borders around the south south region of Nigeria.*
my brother after baddling the canoe crossing other farmers to the other side...
here's the surprising thing with this stream across the stream to the far right is a natural bridge, I don't know how the exact same length of a very tall tree fell across the exact same length of the stream forming a natural bridge for farmers who could not use the canoe to walk through to the other side.
according to what my brother told me before my visit the waters were so high it covered the whole tree so people could barely pass through, so what they do is to use a very long stick like a guide to hold and walk through so as not to fall into the water, also the current was high that if anyone mistakenly falls in it could easily drawn cause it was deep and the current was high
as you can see the bridge which the locals call ekpad was still covered by water as at when I came but however for almost three weeks around August break when the rain stopped the water subsided and the bridge was now very visible, this long stick here is what the people use to hold and cross by foot on the bridge
one time according to my brother the waters were so high some one who tries to cross the stream by canoe with his bike accidentally capsized and the bike was immensed in water for weeks cause the current and water level was high no-one could get it out till certain rights were done before a group of experts could drag the bike out.
I still wonder at this small stream I use to cross by foot now so big that the villagers need a canoe to pass across or walk over using it's natural bridge, a gift of nature I suppose.
This stream is situated in Awi community in Akamkpa local Government Area of Cross-River state, Nigeria.
